I like the community atmosphere and the small town feel of Matthews. It doesn't feel like it's just a suburb of Charlotte, but instead it feels like a self-sufficient town (which it is!).
You're likely to see lots of kids skateboarding and families getting together for barbecues. Neighbors seem to get along great here and they'll definitely welcome the occasional visitor with open arms.
I took this photo near the pond in front of Matthew Presbyterian Hospital.
Matthews has a great community spirit. On summer evenings you'll find huge crowds watching kids playing baseball at the local park. The people who live here don't think of Matthews as a suburb of Charlotte, but instead as their very own neighborhood community.
There are some well attended festivals (mostly in the summer) that attract the whole community to the middle of town (Trade & John Streets mark the epicenter of Matthews).
There is also a weekly produce market that convenes on Trade St.
