Stepping into Jones Discount Drug Store was like stepping back in time. It was a relief that some such old-style drug stores were still very much in business and hadn't gone the way of Faulkner & Lawson's (a similar small-town drug store with lunch counter in South Boston, VA that went out of business in 1999). The store had that old look and feel and the lunch counter made the experience complete. I left the store happy that I captured the experience and the lunch counter on film, but a little sad because, down the road was a national chain drug store (CVS) which has put so many other small-town drug stores out of business. Next time I go to Oxford, I hope to find Jones' lunch counter in its place, instead of an exhibit in the Granville County museum down the street.
