The Brewery, last I checked, is a pretty cool spot to catch both local and national bands. A little small, a little smoky but very intimate. You're right there with the band. I've met so many bands that have played here after shows and both bands that I played in (high school and college) got to play here several times. So check the Independent (a free weekly paper you can pick up almost anywhere in the triangle) and see who's playing.

Loads and loads of different beers on tap, an outdoor seating area and greasy cheese fries and wings type eating fare. Seriously they have like 200 different beers or something ridiculous like that, all of them world beers, and they even have a beer club you can join and try to drink every kind of beer there. Once you do you'll get a plate put up on the wall. Monday nights any pint costs 2.50. The crowd is mainly college kids and a few young professionals. Come to think of it older folks too. You'll enjoy it if you dig crafted beers.

Tir na nog on Blount St. by TimDaoust Tir na nog means "land of eternal youth". This place is located a stone's throw from City Market and has a very cozy atmosphere. Great beer on tap, great Irish style food and some nights there's live music. I wandered in here the other night and they had Irish music and dancing as well. Great staff, great crowd most nights and I think some nights it's 21 and up. May or may not still be like this. I think I had trouble getting in here once or twice when I was in high school. Come out if you enjoy good beer and Irish food and atmosphere. I had the shepherd's pie here once which was excellent.

The Pour House by TimDaoust This place is on the same block as Tir na nog and hosts a variety of small live shows. I saw a blue grass show here the other night and I know that Shaun Mullins is coming here in April. The upstairs has pool tables and downstairs there are a few tables and couches but most of the floor is open and the audience has to stand up. There is always a cover and it's 21 and up to get in but they will allow underage persons under certain circumstances. But they have 30 draught beers and a good selection of bottled beers and house wine. They have a great website with all of this information and more. Check it out.

In the past few years or so this area has gone through some revitalization. Mainly, I'm referring to the stretch of Glenwood Ave. from Hillsborough st. up to Peace St. When I was in high school, all I remember being open here was Harry's Guitar shop and a pizza hut. Now that Pizza hut is a Mellow Mushroom PIzza, much better in my opinion, and just about every building has been turned into something, from art galleries to coffee houses and bars. There are loads of restaurants to choose from and I shall take a tour soon to highlight some of the better places. Stay tuned for more. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and Drinking

by beccamye If Elvis Costello hung out in Chapel Hill, he'd be at one of two bars: Hell or Henry's. This artsy alternative Bistro, located in Carborro,is great for people watching. I think it has a decidedly European flair. Every Monday night, pints are $2.50, and the late night menu is always available until 2AM. I've never actually eaten dinner here (it's gourmet yum-yum American/French cuisine,$y) but countless nights I've consumed too much merlot while trading angst stories with my friends. In terms of snacking,I've read that the Bistro Hash is really good. The Potato Grrls, who rate fries and hashbrowns in the Triangle area, gave it 4 potatoes on their web site (meaning total carbohydrate esctasy). I myself am partial to the Cheesefries at Linda's Bar. Henry's has live local music Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays.
Dress to match your personality. Diesel shoes and slinky scarves. Jeans and thrift store tafetta. Cool, very cool. Leave a Comment Theme: Live MusicDirections: 403 West Rosemary St.Other Contact: 919-967-4720 www.henrysbistro.c

They were the first bar where I have had a wide selection of Wheat Beer on tap...at least 3...which is good for a US bar! They also had other selections in the bottle.

Here is a look at where to go in Raleigh to see a movie if you want something more than just a chain movie theater and mainstream hollywood flicks. Mission Valley Shopping center on the corner of Avent Ferry and Western Blvd used to be a United Artists theater but is now independently owned and along with the hollywood stuff there is the occasional indy flick that will grace the theater here. After the show, or before you can hang out at the cup a joe's or the record exchange right next door. The Rialto is in an old theater on Glenwood Ave. and is mainly indy flicks. They also do the Rocky Horror picture show here every Friday at midnite. A cool place to go in general and its close to third place coffee and lily's pizza. Another place to go is the Raleighwood theater. Now, I've never been but I hear it's a good experience. I mean, you get dinner and a movie here. How cool is that. Check out the website for more info. The fare is mainly bar and grill type stuff. Leave a Comment Theme: Theater

If you like beer, you have to hit The Flying Saucer. 80 beers on tap, over 200 beers total.

For cheap, easy entertainment there's always the $1.50 movie theatre off Blueridge Road. All shows all times are only $1.50 and you can usually catch movies just out of major circulation. It's cheap, clean, and offers about 12 movies for your viewing pleasure. Leave a Comment Theme: Theater
