Carolina Ale House: Great place to catch the game
  • Satisfaction:

  • This place has countless TVs along with projector screens to show all the local (NHL Hurricanes, ACC sports, Carolina Panthers) games, as well as some out of the area. Just make sure to get there early if you plan on watching the game there. They have excellent food and a pretty good beer list. With 6 locations in the area, it shouldn't be too far from you.

Clyde Cooper's Barbecue Restaurant: The way it's supposed to be made

  • Located in a small, old brick building on E Davie St. Cooper's is a trip back to good old times. Very cheap and very good BBQ... the best I've had in Raleigh, although I haven't been to a BBQ locations in North Raleigh. It is very small, 4 people to a booth at best, but it is well worth it. I recommend it to everyone who comes to town.

Cooper's Barbecue: North Carolina BBQ at it's best since 1928!

  • My parents were in town, and wanted to try some Southern BBQ. I asked my friends, and they all said Coopers is the place to go. It's just a hole in the wall that's crammed with booths and tables, but the food is excellent. You'll see businessmen and politicians in three piece suits, families, and construction workers alike there.

They close at 6:00, so it's best to go for lunch or an early dinner.

Please note they do not accept credit cards, so bring cash. Meals are inexpensive, lunch for three was less than $20.

Barbeque - they offered pulled pork and chicken. Also each meal comes with hush puppies and homemade pork rinds (first time I've ever had them homemade).

If you're a vegetarian or don't like barbeque, it's not the place for you. The menu is one page and has limited options. But c'mon, they'v been around since 1928 serving just barbeque, must be doing something right!

  • Very nice atmosphere coupled with really good food. I've gone here for a couple of dates and I always enjoy it immensely. The thing I dislike is the lack of parking sometimes. But I still highly recommend this place.

Goodberry's: Goodberry's has the BEST frozen custard!

  • The best "Ice Cream" shoppe (if you can call it one). They sell frozen custard, but it's the best you'll ever have!

Get the daily concrete! It's always made fresh and to perfection, make sure you get at least a medium, otherwise you're going to leave wanting more!

  • Goodberry's is the best ice cream (or frozen custard) place in town. We unfortunately live too close and eat here way to often! Make time to try some custard-you won't be disappointed!

I love the concretes! I usually do the chocolate custard with m&m's but my husband and daughter love the vanilla with cookies 'n cream. Their are a varieties of toppings and custard flavors.

    Goodberrys: Carolina Concrete

  • SSerre

  • While in town, you must try some of Goodberry’s Carolina Concrete Frozen Custard. They were mixing items into their custard before all those other chains came into town. They make their mixture right in the store frequently during the day versus having it shipped in from corporate. They use fresh berries and nuts, versus processed purees.

The product they serve is so thick that they flip it upside down before handing it to you and every bit of it stays in the cup.

Most of the locations have outdoor seating, and they’re open year round. There’s eight locations in the Triangle.

    Hayes Barton: a cozy diner/cafe
  • Satisfaction:
  • MovingMere

  • A restaurant with decor to honor the World War II generation, Hayes Barton is reminiscent of another generation. It is housed in a smallish space, so go with some extra time or at a non peak hour. The desserts are the reason for many patrons' visit. They're yummy and served in very large portions, so bring a friend to share it with or get it to go.

It's fun to sit near at the window at night, perched on a barstool with a view of Five Points while enjoying a delicious slice of cake.
