The Pit: Fancy North Carolina BBQ
by reineckette
A nice place to go for North Carolina BBQ. The Pit is a nice, clean restaurant with a great selection and delicious food. The cost is a bit higher that the little hole in the wall BBQ places but it is still really good.
The pumpkin skillet cornbread is excellent. I am a fan of the basics so I enjoy the chopped BBQ plate with either mac and cheese, cheesy bacon grits, fried okra or sweet potato fries on the side. I've heard that the brisket is really good too.
The Weeping Radish Brewery and Bavarian Restaurant: Three Locations
by grandmaR
I have not eaten in any of these restaurants. We considered it, but eventually ate across the street. I did have a picture taken from the car.I don't usually put a restaurant under the state, unless they have more than one location in the state and are not a national chain. These people have three locations. The one that most people know about in Manteo, one in Corolla, and they are opening a new place in Jarvisburg on the Mainland. They also brew their own beer and have tours of the brewery both in Manteo and Jarvisburg.. Brewery tours take place during the summer months each day at 1 PM. There is no charge for the tours. Brewery Tours in the shoulder seasons are by appointment. In case you wondered -from their menu: "The name “Weeping Radish” refers to the large German radish that is typically served as an accompaniment to beer in Bavarian restaurants and Gasthäuser. It resembles an...
La FoGata Restaurant: Local Mexican Chain
by grandmaR
There are two of these restaurants on the Outer Banks. One in 5002 S. Croatan Hwy, Nags Head and the other at: 3924 N. Coratan Hwy, Kitty Hawk 255-0934I wanted to come here and eat (they are supposed to be open year round), but somehow it didn't work out space and time wise.
The Outer Banks Restaurant Insider says: A traditional Mexican restaurant, La Fogata gets its name from the Spanish word for "campfire." For the price, La Fogata serves the best ethnic food on the beach. People wait in line to eat here on weekend nights. You'll see a lot of locals in here year-round.

Waffle and Pancake House: breakfast anyone?
by b1bob
This restaurant could not have been more convenient to our hotel, then a Comfort Inn. It was also perfect for what we needed for a filling breakfast (as it happens, the day after 11 September 2001) before we auctioned off a small grocery store in town. The restaurant was an obvious knockoff of the Waffle House chain, maybe even a former Waffle House. They changed the name just enough to avoid running afoul of copyright laws.
I had two eggs fried over well with grits and bacon. It wasn't great, but it wasn't awful. However, it was good enough, convenient, and quick.
Natty Greene's Pub & Brewing: A Brewery in Downtown Raleigh
by reineckette
This brewery has a main location in Greensboro and recently opened up its Raleigh location. It is named for Nathaniel Greene, the Revolutionary War General who commanded Colonial troops into battle throughout North Carolina. The restaurant has high ceilings, which gives it a nice open feel. The beer is pretty good and the food is good as well. Not the best meal I've ever had, but definitely a nice place to go for a beer and a decent meal.
Ole Time Barbeque: Classic North Carolina BBQ
by reineckette
I loved this place. Within my first couple of days in Raleigh, I was taken here and it was delicious. I'm not going to lie, just driving by it, I am not sure that I wouldn't have gone in. It's along the side of a road by itself with a small parking lot and looks a little dodgy - but man, is it good.
I ordered the Hand Chopped BBQ Pork Plate with Sweet Potato Sticks on the side. The thing about North Carolina BBQ is that it is vinegar based, not tomato based so it has a different flavor than the BBQ that I am used to. It is absolutely delicious. The Sweet Potato sticks were great too. I ordered them thinking that I was getting sweet potato fries but when they came, they were closer to the size of steak fries and not fried all the way through so the inside was warm sweet potato goodness. And, of course, since I was in the South, I had to order Sweet Tea as well. Yum.
Biscuitville: Hot and fresh
by b1bob
Biscuitville is a regional chain of franchised restaurants (specialising in biscuits) with several dozen locations across southern Virginia and North Carolina. Biscuitville still makes their biscuits fresh and it makes for a filling and nourishing meal.
I prefer the grilled chicken biscuit with a side of country fries. They also offer sausage, ham, egg-bacon-cheese, fried chicken, fried or grilled pork tenderloin biscuits. Besides biscuits they offer pancakes and all manner of sides and sweets.
Crabbie's Restaurant: Aaah..stuffed flounder with crab meat
by k_k_g
We were driving along the Atlantic coast and of course we all had a craving for fish. So not wanting to stop at a restaurant right that was in a well known tourist towns we decided to drive a little bit inland and that is when we saw the poster for “Crabbie’s Restaurant”After driving along a small road we finally found it..It’s situated along the marina, it’s a lovely dine that has a choice of eating in a nice air-conditioned inside with a sea motif ( like nets, ship parts, posters ect.) with a pleasant view, or you can eat outside on a balcony just along the marina shore. And the food is GREAT and the portions are pretty big! Think of a plate called “Flounder stuffed with crab meat”…yum… With one plate, two sides and a drink it was about 20$.. and it was really worth it!

Weeping Radish: A bit of Bavaria on the OBX
by MANXCATS
Coming from the UK it's great to find real food , good ale and a friendly atmosphere. There's a nice garden outside to walk in. The name is really what attracted us when we did our research on the Internet.
Sauerkraut with frankfurters......and the beer was good.
