Here I am fishing off the boat we rented on Lake Glenville. It cost 30 dollars an hour, plus they gave us fishing gear. The place we rented from was called Glenville Outfitters and they are right off the side of Highway 107. And, I had no luck catching any fish on the lake.

Here's another flower picture. I'll take this time to inform you about some other rivers/streams/lakes in the area that you may be interested in if you fish a lot. Remember, the county stocks all the rivers/streams/lakes monthly with brown trout, rainbow brook, and some other fish too. Some good streams or creeks in the area are Savannah Creek which is off of Highway 441 just before you reach Dillsboro. Cope Creek which is off of Highway 107 right near Jack the Dipper's Ice Cream shop and before you reach WCU, my house is up a dirt road and around a mountain from here!. Tuckasegee River This river runs through quite a bit of Sylva, Dillsboro, and then all the way down Highway 74 towards Bryson City. They stock heavily between Highway 107's Love Field Bridge and the Dillsboro Dam. There are quite a few places to pull off of the road and fish. Just a note, Highway 107 is really just a two-lane road with a 35 mph speed limit, not like a super-highway. To get to Love Bridge, take Highway 107 from downtown Sylva towards WCU, then take a right at the Ingles Supermarket and follow that road (Hwy. 116 until you reach a bridge, and that's the river and Love Bridge). More on the next pics.....

Ok, here's more flowers and more fishing information. Scott Creek This creek is also stocked, and if you want to find it, go www.mapquest.com and get a map of the city named Dillsboro. When the map comes up zoom in or out until it shows all the rivers and creeks. It's a free map and it shows where everything I'm talking about is! Buff Creek This is also stocked, refer to the map or visit http://wnctrout.com/jackson.htm to get tons more information!!

The areaaround Sylva is full of wonderful streams and lakes that everyone (who buys a license) can fish on. Most every inch of water is stocked full of rain rainbow trout, brook, and brown trout by the N.C. fish and Wildlife people. Recently I took a trip to nearby Lake Glenville which can be found by take highway 107 from Sylva towards Cashiers. You cannot miss the lake as it is only 30 minutes by car and it's huge. You can rent boats for as little as $30 and hour, and take them out on the lake to enjoy the scenery, waterski or wakeboard, fish, or take in the 3 wonderful waterfalls that flow into the lake.

Another waterfall on Lake Glenville. There are three total on the lake, and they're sometimes used by fisherman trying to catch their fish, but sometimes you get a good view of them.

Trout fishing in the chilly rivers of WNC

by Venturingnow Written Feb 25, 2003
    Me with a catch

Trout fishing is my favorite thing to do in this part of the country. My parents house is really close to a number of great trout rivers and streams where I normally catch quite a bit of fish. One day, I caught 34 in about 3-4 hours. The Tuckaseegee and Nantahala rivers are nice, as well as Scotts Creek, Bear Lake, Savannah Creek, and the area around Fontana Lake.
