If you've been to Weaverville for the Weaverville Art Safari, here's another event you might consider making the trip for. The first ever Art in Autumn Arts & Crafts Festival takes place September 22, 2007 on Main Street in downtown. The festival was inspired by the local and regional artists and craftsmen in the area, as well as the success of the Art Safari.

Art in Autumn is a juried show which "promises to showcase the diverse range of cultural heritage of Weaverville". Over 65 artists will be displaying their work. You will also be able to sample the fare of local restaurants, and listen to music on their local music stage.

This is being put on by the Weaverville Business Association, and they seem to have covered all the bases here. They want this to be an annual event, so I'll be sure to update on both the festival and if we can look forward to seeing it every year.

Local artists open their studios to the public twice a year, the last weekend of April and the first weekend of November. There are some exceptional artists in this area and many offer studio demonstrations, sale rooms, and door prize drawings in addition to selling their work. Guide maps are printed with examples of each artists' work so you can easily plan your route. There's no charge for the tour and guide maps can be picked up at local Weaverville businesses or online at www.weavervilleartsafari.com.

Sunnyside Cafe underwent a not-so-good transformation a couple years ago when the original owners left it to someone else to run. After having to close their doors, Jack and Patty took over the restaurant again and recently re-opened. The place is already back to its old form. The food is great, the service is excellent, and I truly can't recommend them enough. If you're coming to town for the Weaverville Art Safari or Art in Autumn, be sure to make reservations or you could have a long wait.

Favorite Dish: They make the best soups, chef salads, bison burgers, and my new favorite, their lasagna.
