This is Wilmington's premier center for the performing arts, with over 450 performances annually. It's located inside the old City Hall.

Designed by John Montague Trimble, it was completed in 1858. It has served as the City Hall, library, and opera house. The Thalian Hall hosted many luminaries, including John Phillip Sousa, "Buffalo Bill" Cody, and Maurice Barrymore.

Even still in downtown Wilmington, you can also enjoy cultural events such as at Level 5 City Stage on Front Street (right beside a couple of dance clubs; there's also a rooftop bar on that level) or at Thalian Hall, which features concerts, plays, and what I really like, The Cinematique Series. WHQR, the public radio station holds viewings of foreign and independent films at Thalian. Actually, legend has it that Thalian Hall is haunted. I, myself, have not seen anything there; but, hey, if you want to try your luck at spotting a ghost, have at it. On a side note, WHQR also holds little cultural events in their downtown office lobby.

    Wilmington's City Hall/Thalian Hall
City Hall is in the same building as Thalian Hall. I didn't go inside, but self-guided tours are available weekdays between 12 and 6pm and weekends 2pm-6pm. There is a small admission fee.
