It is very informative and neat. It is not all about reading...there is a buffalo, TeePee, and many more displays that make touring much for fun. Also for the kids, there is a section just for children and information on how and what they played with in those days.  Capitol building by Pierre_Rouss
The building was built in 1931, it had lots of things in it that are now standard now, but were quite progressive back then. It is still the tallest building in the state. Leave a Comment Directions: MIDDLE, can't miss it.

 Dakota Zoo - Bismarck by my2kids
A very nice zoo with many, many animals. Lots to see and do.
Take a 20 minute tour ride on one of two zoo trains and see the sights and sounds the easy way.
Pop on into the gift shop - or get some ice cream at the parlor, or snacks at the concessions stand.

Surprisingly good, the Dakota Zoo offers many exhibits of animals native to the prairie, but also has a good variety of other creatures. The monkey house at the zoo is a particular favorite of mine. There is also a longer "wilderness walk" (a mile or so?) that showcases the larger animals. The day I went was VERY hot, so I may have been better off taking the "train"-type observation vehicle that also follows the trail.
On a more irritating note, I brought a bag lunch into the zoo, expecting to enjoy my brie and baguette on the grass under a tree. After finding the perfect spot, I was embarrassingly shooed away by a zoo employee in a golf cart. He suggested that I go to the picnic area, which I was ultimately unable to locate. When I asked him if I was bothering anyone or breaking any rules, he replied that the children at the park might follow my lead and sit on the grass. Horrors! As there were no rules posted against grass-sitting, I'm still not quite sure what the problem was. Sad how one bad interaction seemed to wreck the whole experience.
