When driving in Fargo always...
When driving in Fargo always remember that a newly turned red light is an invitation for slam on the gas explosion through the intersection. In fact if you do not run light here you will get a lot of disgusted looks and horn honking. Oh and do not worry about the police, It is too cold for them to bother pulling people over. They make all thier money busting college parties.
Lefse and Uff Da
Though increasingly cosmopolitan, Fargo is at its core an outpost of Norway. Lawrence Welk is still seen every Saturday night on Prairie Public TV, Kroll's Diner has ads where two old ladies dressed as waitresses admonish you to "Sit Down Unt Eat!", and if something is good you say "Fer Neat!" and if it is bad you say, "Uff Da!". Even I, a displaced southerner, have fallen into saying "Uff da" in an unconvincing accent. And yes, some folks really do talk like the movie "Fargo" though nobody wants to admit it.

Business is Boomin' in Fargo
While the United States and a lot of the western world has been suffering from the economic downturn the last few years there have been several pockets that have kept their head above water. One of these is the town of my latest business trip Fargo, North Dakota and its sister city Moorhead, Minnesota.
A town of about 100,000 and a metro area of about 160,000, I found out and had a company outing this week at the World's Largest Pool Hall (more later). It is also the home town area or one of my all time favorite restaurants which I will put some additional tip information on both my Fargo and Moorhead pages.
Fargo is in North Dakota and Moorhead is its sister city across the Red River in Minnesota. The Red River is a constant threat to flood in the spring during the thaw and is one of the few rivers in the Northern Hemisphere to flow north. It flows north to Canada and empties into Lake Winnipeg.
Locals talk normally
I have lived in the Fargo Moorhead Community since I was 5 years old. Not only do we not say things such as "uuf-da" or "for neat" as was posted before me, but we are continually irritated by newcomers who try to talk that way. If you want to make friends easily in Fargo, DO NOT try to speak this way. It is like trying to make friends with someone who is African American for example by saying things like "homie" or whatever other stereotypical thing you can think of. Please, PLEASE do not speak like that!!!!
