Parrot's Cay: Tiki Bar amid the Tundra

    by North_by_Northwest Written Jun 15, 2006

Once inside, this dark, cheesily decorated bar & grill will transport you to Florida. This is definitely a low-budget affair, but the decor is creative and fun. There is a good variety of beer - especially for Grand Forks. No hard liquor available, though. There are also very good specials on bar food (for example, $1 burgers with a beverage purchase on Mondays) and they make their own potato chips. On the whole, though, the focus here is not on food. The staff is very nice, and Parrot’s Cay is one of the very few bars in Grand Forks where the bartenders actually talk to the customers. This is a small bar and tends to get very crowded at night, but is comfortable during happy hour or during the day on Saturday. The bathrooms are a bit dodgy (not dirty, just kind of cobbled together) – I wouldn’t recommend this spot to someone who prefers more posh places. I've heard rumors of live music here, but haven't seen it myself. On the whole, though, this is a great getaway during the long, cold winters.

Down Under Pub: Grand Forks Pub

    Best drink in the house!

Down Under Pub had a good beer selection, but the place also had some cheap beer pitcher specials. Near the UND campus and gets crowded.
