Hiking at Fort Ransom State Park

by Basaic Updated Mar 23, 2012

There are a variety of hiking trails at Fort Ransom State Park ranging from the very short .3 mile easy Riverside Trail to the 1.9 mile segment of the 3200 mile National Scenic Trail (partly still under construction) that leads from Crown Point, NY to Lake Sakakawea, North Dakota. One of the more challenging trails in the park is the strenuous 1.2 mile Ridgeline Trail whci has a 250 foot elevation change and a great view.

Equipment: Good walking shoes, water, sunscreen, a hat, weather appropriate clothing.

Hiking at Theodore Roosevelt National Park

by Basaic Written Mar 23, 2012

There are a number of different hiking opportunities at both the South Units and the North Units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. They range from easy trails like the .7 mile portion of the Little Mo Trail (North Unit) which is wheelchair accessible to the 96 mile Maah Daah Hey Trail which traverses both units. A couple of my favorites were: the .6 mile Ridgeline Trail (South Unit), the Oxbow Bend Trail (North Unit) and the 1.6 mile Caprock Coulee Trail (North Unit).

Equipment: Good walking shoes, water, a snack, sunscreen, a hat, weather appropriate clothing.
