Fort Mandan is a reconstruction of the winter lodging of Lewis and Clark during their expedition. Fort Mandan is located just off of Highway 83 and Highway 200A in Washburn. Fort Mandan hosts an interpretive Center as well as the reconstructed fort, diplays, walking paths, and camping.

Here, Lewis and Clark spent their first winter along the Missouri. Without the support of the local Mandans across the river, the expedition would have ended here.
