Dilly's: For the true Akron experience
This is a neat little drive-in restaurant with a view of the Goodyear Blimp hangar and the Soap Box Derby Downs. And the incomparable Dilly Dog.
Unfortunately it's closed during the winter and I think on Sundays.
Favorite Dish: I've only had a couple things from the menu. The french fries are good, but the specialty is the Dilly Dog and you've got to try it. Don't just order their hot dog, which is ordinary. Make it the Dilly Dog.
The DillyDog will make you glad you visited Akron and will live in your dreams forever. Incredible hot dog.
Anthe's Restaurant 330.644.4214, Tangier's Restaurant, and the Waterloo Restaurant 330.773.5158 all have great food and good atmospheres. If you have $100 that is burning a hole in your pocket- go to Ken Stewart's Grille 330.867.2555.
Tangiers W.Market St. Akron Oh: Wow the worst ever
I have been to Tangier's many time in the past with a average experience.
Two weeks ago I Went to a banquet there and was surprised with the worst meal and service that I have ever experienced in a restaurant.
First we were served our salad and desert!
then pasta was placed on the table.
No plates on the table
Pasta was served home style, with a large bowl of pasta on the table, but there were no plates on the table.
When one of the guest at the table asked if some plates could be brought to the table the server said " You can use the dish that your steak is in!" He said that he would prefer a separate plate and then was told "No!" Use your other dish!
Her reply was in a very gruff and unprofessional tone of voice. The person he asked appeared to be the manager or at least someone in charge of the staff. The actual servers did their job without fault.
No coffee or any other dink was offered or placed on the table.
Bread was brought out in a basket only to find that it was still frozen., steak was prepared the way the wanted it not the way the customers wanted it!
The table next to us was served a pot of coffee but no cups to use.
Wow I could go on and on about the worst meal and service I have ever had in a restaurant.
The food was only acceptable but not the service.
Seeing a patron being told "No!" when asking for a clean plate is something that should only be seen in a movie, not at a restaurant.
Tangier you have seen the last dollar that I will spend there!
Avoid at all cost!!!!!!!

Swenson's: Best Hamburger
The Swenson's Drive-in restaurants are a big Akron favorite, open year-round.
Don't just order a hamburger. It's got to be their special, the Galleyboy. All other burgers will fade from memory.
Favorite Dish: They have a big menu, and the deep-fried zuchini is pretty good. But skip the menu and just order Galleyboys all around.
Luigi's: Great Italian, and open late! try 4am on weekends!
Great Italian, heaping bowls of salad overflowing with mozarella, they don't ask you "what kind of salad dressing?" (It's Italian! ;) Love their pizzas, spaghetti & meatballs (-two kinds of red sauce - Marinara - spicey and tomato - yum! my fav)
Great prices, been there for years, and open late - Even though it's "down under" the Y bridge off downtown Akron, it's always packed, so take your time, and have a glass of wine while you wait for a table. Mangia!

Rockne's: Best Little Restaurant
I love this place. It has better food than the fancy restaurants.
Rockne's is the real thing. It's branched out some now, and they all have wonderful, cheap food. But go to the original, on Hudson Dr. in Cuyahoga Falls. Great little spot, with character to spare.
Favorite Dish: The Firestone Chicken Salad is a big favorite, but the sandwiches are also great.
Well, my favorite thing to eat...
Well, my favorite thing to eat on these road trips really doesn't qualify as a restaurant. See, off of the highways, I-71 and I-73, and the country roads leading to Nelson's Ledges there are tons of fresh fruit stands. There's a lot of farmland in Ohio and in late spring through summer there is always the best fruit around. I like to go to the farms where you pay $5.00 USD and pick your own berries! Fresh strawberries and raspberries are my favorite!
So if you happen to be on these highways and roads, keep your eyes out for all of the signs and arrows directing off the path and towards the fruit.
