Berea Things to Do

Always the local college, growing up, we didn't think about the school much. It is set on a beautiful campus that has grown to stretch over a mile. Small by comparision to many schools. Located in the town of Berea, it has been separate from the community, nor has it developed a 'student' ghetto. It is a nice place to take a stroll among the old sandstone buildings and shaded lawns.

Founded in 1845, Baldwin-Wallace was one of the first colleges in Ohio to admit students without regard to race or gender. That spirit of inclusiveness has flourished.

The old quarries surround the town on the south and west. Started to the southwest, the quarries grew until they began eating up the town. The "Big Quarry" once included the homes of some of the wealthiest citizens and the local colleges, 'Baldwin College'. They were all moved to other locations as the quarry neared.

The largest section of the quarry is now the twin lakes of Baldwin and Wallace in the Rocky River Unit of the Cleveland Metroparks.

Favorite thing: Berea is a small town only 15 minutes away from Cleveland. Its nice and quite. It is also where Baldwin-Wallace College (a private liberal arts college) is located.
