The Rainforest by CoAir13 Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and rainforest is home to 3,000 animals representing 600 species, 84 of them endangered. This zoo is active in conservation research and co-op breeding programs. Some of the newer additions are wonderful, but there needs to be a lot more updating (in my opinion). The wolf woods in the Northern Trek is newer and offers many North American species....bald eagle, beavers, and many fish. The bears, however, aren't lucky enough to have very nice living quarters....they seem to pace most of the time. The Australian Adventure is geared toward children, but is fun for everyone. Kangaroos and wallabies have plenty of roaming room. There are koalas that are kept indoors, but are visible in their trees. The primate and cat building houses animals behind glass. Cheetahs have an outside enclosure as do the gorillas, but I have a really hard time looking at them in such small spaces!! The African Savanah has a great deal of space for zebras, ostriches, and giraffes. The rainforest is very cool!! Fascinating exotic creatures. The gardens throughout the entire park offer a variety of flora from around the world. Admission and hours change with the seasons. Call or check the website for specifics. Open everyday except Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Australian Adventure is closed in the winter. Leave a Comment

Just kidding, Love U2, had to fit them in by kdoc13 Kdoc loves the koala's! Unfortunately I have come to discover that Koala Bears are antisocial, 18 hour a day sleepers, who are normally very angry if not for the drug induced state that the eucalyptis leaves put them in. So luckily the Cleveland Zoo helped me find a new bear that was.... a little more me! I present to you my new favorite animal, the red panda! A noctournal animal that marks its territory but rubbing musk from its butt glands all over things. The Red Panda Rocks! And they can be seen daily at the Cleveland Zoo, along with all kinds of other animals including everything from Anteaters to Zebras. Leave a Comment

One of the Cleveland Metroparks 'reservation, this 170 acre facility is home to the largest collection of primate species in North America. Thousands of animals roam the Zoo's 168 acres and 2 acres of The RainForest, a special, very popular, indoor attraction. Occasional special attractions, including concerts, are scheduled from time to time. One, coming this August, is Twilight at the Zoo. The bands and other entertainers scheduled for appearances are the who's who of musical America - and tickets range from $50 to $125. (see their web site for details). Obviously, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is much more than just another zoo. To the little ones in your family it can be as entertaining as a circus (most kids love animals and this is close-up) but prepared to spend a day. (Food and drink is available, of course.) The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is a great place to spend a day! The Zoo and The RainForest are open 363 days a year except January 1 and December 25. The Zoo and The RainForest are open 10:00am to 5:00pm daily with the zoo's main gate opening at 9:30am. Memorial Day through Labor Day, on Saturdays and Sundays, the Zoo and The RainForest remain open until 7:00pm. In the peak season (Mar. 31, 2007 - Oct. 31, 2007), the Zoo and RainForest costs $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children. There are plenty of things to see and do at the zoo. Food concessions are not the tastiest or the cheapest, so you may want to pack a lunch and eat at one of the picnic areas in the zoo. It took our family (2 adults and 2 children) 5 hours to see everything and there was more we could have seen!! Go early because front row parking is easily accessible and you'll beat the crowds/tour buses/school buses.

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is located on the west side of Cleveland. It has expanded some in the last few years and added a few new exhibts. Check out the primate collection. It's the largest one in the country & it's pretty neat. This zoo boasts the largest collection of primates in North America. The newest additions to the Zoo are the Wolf Wilderness and Australian Adventure. The Rainforest is a large heated "greenhouse" full of exotic species and interactive exhibits. *Note* During busy hours you can not bring a stroller through the building. You can leave it outside. Coolers and picnic baskets can be brought into the park, but they may confiscate any harmful items such as straws. Currently Open: 10am-5pm. Summer hours will be extended. Closed only on Jan 1 and Dec 25. Children under 2 are free. On Mondays, the Zoo (not Rainforest) is FREE for residents of Cuyahoga County and Hinckley Township. (if Monday is a holiday, this will apply on Tuesday). Parking is FREE. All ZooTrams are FREE. Discounts: AAA, Acme, Discount DrugMart, Best Benefits Club Public Transportation!-During summer run the Zoo offers HALF-PRICE admission for those arriving by RTA. Just ask for a receipt. I also believe if you go to the park when it is under 30 degrees, you can get in for $2. It's called the "polar bear" deal.
