La Cave du Vin: Wine and Beer Snobs Unite

    by IMthat1girl000 Updated Mar 27, 2007

This underground bar attracts all types of people because of its wide variety of drinks. There are over 70 types of drinks you can order by glass. Then on the other side of the bar are four large coolers full of imported beers. There are so many different choices I wouldn't know where to start. The interior is dark and romantic with white christmas lights string above the walls. You can order by the bar or at a table. Big Tip, if you sit with a group, they won't split the bill and that makes things complicated.

Each of the bartenders tend to have a favorite drink area. Some prefer beer, others enjoy mixing drinks. Ask for a recommendation. They often let you try their special beers on tap for free. They will ask you about your tastes to get to know what you like most in your drinks. Many people who do not like wine come out of this place discovering that there is a wine out there for everyone! (or a beer for that matter)

They also have an excellent assortment of cheeses, I've heard the best in town, but I don't know much about cheese!

Dress Code: Jeans to work casual. The coventry scene is eclectic so the more you don't fit in the better!

    Barking Spider Tavern in...

Barking Spider Tavern in University Circle
The Barking Spider is housed in an old carriage house and draws a diverse and eclectic crowd who enjoy sitting outside at picnic tables in summer, or huddling about the fireplace in winter. Live music is played nightly and bands must book several months in advance. Feel free to bring your dog. Martin keeps a full water dish by the door for the many quadrapeds who visit with their owners.

The Spider serves only beer, wine and low proof alcohol which helps to keep out the serious drinking/flaming shots type of crowd. Labatts and Miller Lite are served on draft, but there is a diverse selection of bottled beers ranging from hearty stouts to Belgian Fruit Ales as well.

Chips and Hot Dogs are the only food offerings, but those with an appetite can walk to nearby Restaurants such as 'That Place on Bellflower' and 'Sergio's' for a serious meal, then return to the Spider to listen to the band. Sandwiches and salads may also be brought back from nearby Arabica and eaten at the Spider.

Dress Code: Dress is extremely casual. While you will see the occassional suit or dress, most patrons wear t-shirts and shorts or jeans.
