Wait, a hockey game is about to break out! by kdoc13 There is nothing like an ECHL hockey game. Especially when your local hometown team is playing one called the "Grrowwlll", or the "Cottonmouths", or the scary "Salmon Kings." What were they thinking! Cottonmouths? I want to name my team for that dry feeling in my mouth after too much alcohol which I notice before I discover my zacly breath! ECHL Hockey is a step or two below the NHL, but is a lot more fun to watch. Fights break out, scoring is high, canadian names aplenty! Plus, for fans of the movie Slap Shot, we play the Cheifs! In fact, I think someone is beating up Paul Newman in the picture. The Nut House, as we like to call the Ervin J. Nutter Center, is a mid-size arena and there really isn't a bad seat there. Unlike the Dragon's games, these rarely sell out though. It is a shame, it is the more fun of the two, as far as putting on a show for the fans goes. Well worth the time to see a game, and not really all that expensive either.

Dayton Dragons Ticket by Voyageuse30 The Dayton Dragons are fun to watch. Going to the stadium (which is pretty new) is fun for a group of friends or the family. I personally prefer the lawn seating, which costs about $5. It's great for kids, because there's a mascot named Heater and he's pretty cool with the kids. :-) The great thing about minor league baseball is that you can get the excitement of a baseball game without the huge impersonal crowds you get at major-league games. Of course, there is plenty of Dragons merchandise for the fans. Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingAddress: 220 N. Fifth Third Field at twighlight. by kdoc13 The Dayton Dragons are a Cincinnati Reds Class A minor league team. we have had a lot of Reds talent come through town, including current playes Adam Dunn and Austin Kearns. Being a Padres fan, I tend not to care about the Reds, but the Dragons are awesome! Fifth Third Field (wait, isn't that 1 and 2/3?) is located on East First street just east of downtown. It is a great stadium for a minor league team, with no bad seats, a grassy knoll for picking off a foul tip, and for the cheap folks like me, you can even watch for free from the streets! Although, most of the time the games sell out before I have a chance to buy tickets. So buy early if you know when you are coming to town.
Some of the seats are hard. So if you are like me and have a lumpy butt and hate the feel of bleachers or hard seats, bring a cushion. Money is also good, because the stadium may be minor league, but the food has a major league price. Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingAddress: 220 N. Point along a bike trail near Dayton by Voyageuse30 The Dayton area has an awesome network of bike trails! To cover them all would take a full day and then some. There's a path that goes right along the Miami River, which is really pretty. The paths also cut through parks and towns. Dayton Bombers Hockey plays at the Nutter Center (part of Wright State Univ.), just off I-675. The games are a lot of fun (but then, I love watching hockey), and not outrageously priced. Dayton Dragons Baseball plays at the newer 5/3 Field, downtown. The games themselves are very entertaining, and pretty cheap to go to. All seats afford good views of the action. The crowds are entertained by the antics of not 1 or 2, but FOUR mascots, local radio and tv personalities, fan volunteers, and even the umpires. Even the food isn't ridiculously priced. Free or cheap parking can generally be found nearby, and many games are followed by fireworks or laser shows (at nearby Riverscape). Numerous promotions are held over the course of the season, including giveaways and reduced admission. In the area there are many die-hard fans of both Wright State Raider and Univ. of Dayton Flyer Basketball. UD also has a football team, although the players don't reach near-celebrity level. All the events are a good change of pace for an afternoon or evening. There is pro-hockey (Blue Jackets) and soccer (Crew) in Columbus, and football (Bengals) and baseball (Reds) in Cincinnati. Sports bars abound virtually everywhere. Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingDirections: All of these teams have websites, and generally advertise on the radio.
