Actually what you must see lies 8 miles east of Fairborn, the village of Yellow Springs. Home to Antioch College, Glen Helen Nature Preserve and John Bryan State Park.
Yellow Springs has done a hurculean job of keeping chain stores from entering the village in favor of smaller shops with an artisan atmosphere.
As if stuck in the '60s, Yellow Springs is a prime mecca for the diverse in a beautifully natural setting.

The Bookery contains new and antiquie comic books, action figures and assorted paraphernalia. Lately the store has expanded, to include video tapes, posters and T shirts.
The Fantasy portion of the operation has moved across the street, and is devoted to fantasy games, books and costumes. Like Foy's, another absorbing set of stores.

Go to Foy's Store, a classic old '5 and Dime' establishment where not only are Halloween items available year-round, but seemingly all those things 'you just can't find anymore' are located. Take your kids and be a kid again, this place is great fun!
Come in October to get the full effect, as their Haunted House and Costume stores are across the street!

A town favorite seems to be Giovannis Pizzeria on Main Street; standard and consistently decent Italian cuisine. A family place.

Damon's Ribs inside the Best Western Hotel on Broad Street has good food and service; bar area has banks of TVs for sports watching and trivia playing.

Numerous Asian restaurants are in Fairborn, none outstanding, but all (that I've tried) are good.

Tickets restaurant and pub is located right downtown and features a number of Greek dishes along with standard American fare. Nice place; good people.

The population of Fairborn is approximately 31,300, and is situated about 8 miles (15 minutes) northeast of Dayton, the seat of Montgomery County. Fairborn is 17 miles (20 minutes) from Dayton International Airport.
For many years, cement production was the city's main resource; that and providing housing for the nearly 40,000 military and civilians who work at the co-joined air force base. The rapid develpment of Wright State University since the 1960s, has generated multiple projects and an industry of military suppliers and contractors that work closely with the Air Force.
Fairborn's nearness to major north/south, east/west interstates makes it quite easy to reach Cincinnati and Columbus in about an hour; Indianpolis, Indiana in about 90 minutes; almost 4 hours to Detroit, Michingan; and a little more than 5 hours to Chicago, Illinois.

Favorite thing: There are some nice people and funky little stores in Fairborn.
My absolute favorite thing is to head a little east to Yellow Springs for a hike in Glen Helen or John Bryan State Park.

Fondest memory: I don't believe I've experienced it yet...
