Lakewood Things to Do

  • by suzylee Written Apr 20, 2008

You cannot walk down Madison Avenue or Detroit Road in Lakewood without noticing the high concentration of these establishments. The two roads are each perfect for a pub crawl, you won't have to worry about walking very far to the next stop! There are all sorts of bars as well- from sports-themed to classy, to the neighborhood dive bars.

After a Saturday night of drinking, you can visit some of the many churches of the city to redeem yourself :)

Beautiful Lake Erie view (not in Winter ...brrr!) and plenty of places for cookouts. Also - lots of shade trees, volleyball courts, baseball diamonds, and swinging benches that overlook the lake (see pic). Alas - no beach here, but pretty and enjoyable nonetheless.

This was a cozy place to get nice Italian and pasta dishes. My brother ate here on his birthday, and on his girlfriends birthday... They absolutely love this place. Their favorite waitress was Julie but I think she doesn't work there anymore.

Favorite Dish: I had the calzone, but I think I would eat a pasta dish next time.

Great sushi and hibachi. Sometimes the hibachi cooks do little "shows" that basically entail juggling/throwing their knives about and setting a few food items alfame. Nothing too spectacular, but my cousin's kids thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Favorite Dish: Their homemade ginger salad dressing and tekka maki.

The "sugar daddie" martini is to die for!

Lake-effect snow is weather phenomenom that occurs frequently throughout the winter in the Great Lakes region.

It occurs when cold Canadian air passes over Lake Erie, picks up lots of moisture, and then dumps absurdly large amounts of very heavy, wet snow in a very short amount of time.

This means traffic tie-ups and messy roads with low-to-no visibilty. If you don't have a lot of experience driving in blizzardy monsoons, then let someone else more experienced take the wheel or stay indoors. Roads and this wet snow freeze can turn to very slick ice sheets in a matter of minutes in some cases!

Hint: If schools are already closed the following day, and little to no snow has fallen yet - that's a bad sign that something serious is on the way!

OK - cops are good cuz they keep us safe. Lakewood cops also keep us "safe" by diligently checking that all passengers in autos are always buckled in, not making illegal turns, parking at expired meters, speeding, etc. The city is largely funded by the revenue from all these tickets they write, haha ;-). The cops are seriously very nice though, so don't be rude if they do happen to write you a ticket, ok?
