There's a great wetland behind the Nature Center. A board walk wanders through the woods and open marshes. You'll see a variety of birds, depending on the time of year. There is a bird blind out on the east end of the 2nd loop, where you can sit and watch the birds in the woods and openings beyond. The trail consist of 2 loops and a short tail to the bird blind and a long tail to the observation platform. There are three entrances. One east of the lodge near the lakeshore. The main entrance by the Nature Center and another access in the middle of the Family Cabins. It's a nice way to get from the cabins to the lodge. It's a way to find some quiet on a bench out in the woods. Or walk out to the very end and you'll enjoy seeing the entire west end of Lake Erie and the Toledo Lighthouse.
Toledo is just 15 miles down the road. If you're at a loss for things to do or want something different, head to Toledo. For information on things, use my Toledo page as a link to other VT suggestions.
The Toledo Lighthouse is located on a breakwall several miles out in Lake Erie. The closest place on the mainland to see it is from the Observation Platform at the end of the Wetland Boardwalk. If you're only interested in lighthouses, the walk is worth taking for this one. During the summer, you may even see bulk freighters of 'salties' (ocean vessels) coming into port from around the world.
