Millersburg's a turn of the century town in the heart of old-order Amish country, about halfway between Cleveland and Columbus. Best thing to do here is to get a county map from the visitor's center downtown, across from the courthouse, and wander. The unpaved roads lead past charming farms, with flowerbeds overflowing with color- a brilliant counterpoint to the whitewashed houses and barns, the clotheslines flapping with somber colored dresses and trousers. Don't be in a hurry- the horses and buggies in front of you are already going as fast as they're going to go. Wave to the little kids in bonnets and strawhats. (Don't take pictures- the Amish don't appreciate it.) Stop and buy some homemade bread, some local Baby Swiss cheese, some fresh fruit, a jug of fresh apple cider, a ring of Trail bologna, and whatever else you find at the roadside stands, and have a picnic of the best Holmes County has to offer. It's a lovely get-away-from-it-all weekend!
