    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Interesting prairie-style architecture, with a design that makes use of some unusual local stone. Somehow, it looks as if it belongs in the world of J.R. Tolkien.

Favorite thing: I saw this striped sweeper outside the beautiful county courthouse in Napoleon. A jail inmate most likely, not closely supervised, but very visible in his bright orange garb. It's an interesting outfit, orange and stripes both connotating "danger" and "warning". Think of orange-clad hunters, or the orange of construction barrels, or the stripes born by referees and concentration camp inmates. There's a very interesting book on the semiology of stripes by a French art historian, "On Stripes," by Michel Pastoreau.
