We found a couple of good maps for Ohio (the Rand Mcnally laminated set being one of them) but most of the better information actually came from AAA. Their midwest guide and Indiana/Ohio maps were very good references throughout our trip.

In the winter be ready to pack warm clothes. In the spring it gets a little warmer, but be ready for rain. In the summer it is very warm, in the fall it is warm until late October, early November. Clothes to fit the season. Most places are well stocked in those things. Camcorder or camera will suffice.
Bring an umbrella if it is spring time beceause you will be afforded many occaisions to use it, if you are in the Cleveland area.Bring a warm as heck down jacket, gloves, scarf, and a ski/stocking cap - if you are coming up here in the winter. No wonder so many Russians come here to settle - they probably think the weather is nice because it is slightly warmer than 'back home'. And it is, slightly.Does it really get cold up in Cleveland area during winter time? I have two words to say to you: 'exposed skin'. Try not to have any in December/January time, or it will go numb if you are walking around outside for an hour or so. Tip: stay dry in spring and warm/covered in winter!Summer on the other hand is pretty mild and all round nice, almost dream-like. I am from DC area, so that is my basis for comparison for these 3 seasons in Ohio. (DC is muggy in summer, rarely gets near zero in...
The north is going to be cooler than the south, all year long... go figure. ;) Well, for instance, in the winter, Cleaveland could get dumped with snow because of Lake Erie... on the other hand, Cincinnati may have nothing, that's all.
Just bring yourselves and exspect a grand time. Ok bring an overnight bag with the essentials and a smile. Hot summers ,cool nights, cold winters with lots of ice fishing and fun! Dress accordingly. tooth brush. Camera are a must. Everything except downhill skis...sorry ya snowbunnys! But, we're close to Micigan and they got some wonderful places...and ya got to go through ohio to get there,ya might as well stop on the way! I haven't even began to tell ya about southern Ohio!
Summers can be extreamly hot so hot weather clothing. Winter can be just feezing with Snow storms and ice storms so winter weather clothing. If you come from outside of the US bring your meds with you as the cost of them are very high on perscription and a visit to the Docs is about 50 dollers. you can get everything you need here.
The thing I noticed about the US was that it was impossible to decide what to wear - you could wear shorts and t-shirts because it felt so hot it could metlt, but the minute you stepped inside anywhere you thought you should have remembered your thermals because the air conditioning was so strong!
I recommend drinking bottled water, their tap water doesn't taste good.
