Visit Mount Vernon, Ohio

by deecat

Mount Vernon, Ohio, is historic, beautiful, architectually vibrant, & tree-lined. It was named an All-American City in 1965 & named Ohio's Most Livable Community" in 1994 by Ohio Magazine. Downtown Mount Vernon has a tall civil war era monument where the soldier is looking to the south in honor of those on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line. The streets are tree lined; there are many quaint little shoppes, antiques stores, as well as quilt shoppes. There is the Knox County Historical Museum where visitors can see memorabilia of two Knox County performing artists: Dan Emmett who composed "Turkey in the Straw", "Blue Tail Fly, & "Dixie" and Paul Lynde, comedian. The place includes artifacts from all aspects of Knox County historyThere is the unrestored Woodward Opera House which is America's Oldest Authentic 19th Century Theater. Townspeople are trying to raise funds to restore this once...

Get To The Point! Cedar Point!

by LuvMyBoxerKids

Cedar Point is the best rollar coaster park on the east coast...and dare I say the United States! This park is the cleanest park I have been to! It is laid out well and has many different rides and attractions to offer its visitors! The MUST RIDES of Cedar Point are: Millenium Force, The Raptor (My personal favorite!), Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum XL-200, Corkscrew, Gemini and the mean streak! To check out a map of the park or all of the rides the park offers, go to their website, www.cedarpoint.com They also offer on site lodging, including Castaway Bay, the newest indoor waterpark resort to hit Ohio and Soak City Outdoor Waterpark! For the 2006 season, you can get a one-day Funday pass for just $39.95 for riders ages 3-61, 48" and taller. A Junior Funday pass is yours for just $9.95 for guests age 3 and older, under 48" tall in shoes. And a Senior Funday pass is just $9.95 for guests...

West Side Market

by LuvMyBoxerKids

A great place for the cook who loves fresh items! Or just a great place for a family day trip! You can get the freshest meats, cheeses, breads, eggs, fish, fruits & veggies, sweets & treats as well as fresh spices, dry goods, lunch meats and yes...even fresh ground peanut butter!! You can also have a one of a kind bouquet of flowers made for that special someone! Located in the neighborhood of "Ohio City" it is a MUST SEE while in Cleveland! But be warned...if you are planning on shopping here, bring lots of cash as not alot of vendors take checks or credit cards. And a back pack or other comfortable bag is a great idea to carry your treasures and finds around in! If you are buying meats, I highly suggest stashing a cooler in your trunk with ice to keep it nice and cool! The West Side Market is a great Cleveland treasure!*You can see the West Side Market on "$40 a day with Rachel Ray" on...

Ye Old Mill: Home of Velvet Ice Cream

by Stephen-KarenConn

This is one of my favorite spots in Ohio, and an excellent choice for a day trip in the central part of the state. It combines scenic beauty, history, and some of the best ice cream you've ever tasted. The original grist mill was built in 1817 in Ohio's Licking River Valley.Today it is the picturesque site of the Velvet Ice Cream headquarters and factory, and the only ice cream museum in Ohio. Velvet is a family owned business, operated since 1914, by 4 generations ofthe Dager family. The ice cream is a regional favorite in Ohio and a few neighboring cities. In addition to the mill, this 20 acre site includes a visitor center, restaurant, 19th century style ice cream parlor, gift shop, picnic area, children's playground, petting zoo, nature trails and more. Admission is free and entertainment is often provided on the weekends. The museum and restaurant are open daily, May through October,...

Ohio art pottery

by islandtaryn

Southeastern Ohio was once rich in potteries. Unfortunately, most of them have not survived.. Still, if you are an art pottery fan you'll enjoy the history of the place. There is a small museum on state route 93 between Crooksville and Roseville that is worth a look see. Potteries that have called this area home were Robinson-Ransbottom, Nelson McCoy, Burley Clay, Hull, The Crooksville China Company, Weller, and the fabulous Roseville Pottery, just to name a few. There is a relatively new company in the area now, Beaumont Brothers, they are making some very nice reproduction salt glaze pieces. You can get more info athttp://www.culture.ohio.gov/project.asp?proj=ceramiccenter

Drive old route 4o

by islandtaryn

Before interstate 70 was in place, old route 40 was the way folks traveled. It parallels the interstate some of the time but is dotted with little towns, many of which are rich in personality. Some of this road was even part of the stage coach route of many decades ago. Every now and then you'll come across a structure that served as a tavern or inn on the route. You may even find some places along the way that were part of the Underground Railroad as it figures prominently into Ohio's history.See details at http://www.strattonhouse.com/index.php?section=attractions&content=national_roadand http://www.route40.net/culture/attractions-oh.shtml
