lake-effect storm in Toledo

Favorite thing: You can check out the weather in the Toledo area before you get there by clicking on the link below. The webcam is on the WUPW television station tower.

A Great man of Ohio

Favorite thing: The noble statue is of President William McKinley, one of many (seven?) US Presidents from Ohio, and someone with ties to the Toledo area. He was once a crony of William Hanna, a big boss man from this part of the state. Yes, amazingly enough, at one time in the distant past there was cronyism and corruption in American politics.

Tower of Glass

Favorite thing: Toledo is famous for its glass. Edward Libbey moved his main glass factory here in the late 19th century, and ever since, Toledo has been synomous with the glass industry in the U.S.A. Appropriately, Toledo has some notable buildings with interesting glass features, including this skyscraper downtown.

Warehouse of Memories

Favorite thing: Toledo, in common with many other Great Lakes cities, has seen better days. Although it isn't as abandoned as Detroit, that's not saying a whole lot. Many fine old buildings in the downtown area are battered and beaten, simply awaiting the day when a wrecking ball puts them out of their misery.

Favorite thing: Go to the Toledo Museum of Art. It is always free and it has a world class collection without the crowds. Then drive to the East Side for dinner at Tony Packo's Cafe--go on a Friday or Saturday to hear the Cake Walkin' Jazz Band--always the best Hungarian sausage, pigs in the blanket, and fried pickles and peppers!

Favorite thing: Walked around Water St. & Promenade Park by the river. There were some nice shops and restaraunts in the area.

Fondest memory: Finding an artist shop that was open so we could warm up and talk to the shop owner about some of the interesting pieces created by local artists.

Favorite thing: The estuary of the Maumee River from Lake Erie to Grand Rapids, OH is the most scenic and varied site.

Fondest memory: We are relatively new to Toledo, but find it a most delightful town. It's not New York or Chicago, but it is a most livable city. Ironically, most of the locals look down their nose at the place - the grass always seems greener. Those of us who have moved here have found the grass very green, indeed.

Toledo has quite a bit to offer for a town its size. It has historical sites such as Fort Meigs, a nice zoo and close proximity to Lake Erie
