The metroparks are great for families and couples and even a single person during the day.
However, please take care when going to the park, there have been crimes in the parks in the last few years.
Don't take anything you cannot carry on you. Criminals can break into your car in the parking lots and have things out of your trunk, glove compartment, etc, in a matter of minutes and be gone. Try not to park in the first parking lot you find if there is more than one, sometimes there are park rangers in some lots, try to park there.
Don't go out on the trails alone, there have been muggings and reports of flashers in the woods. Carry some pepper spray if you are uneasy. Homeless people are known to frequent the areas at night and sleep around the trails as it's more safe for them there than in an alley or under an overpass.
Also, as with any wooded or secluded area, don't go out at night in the park, it's just not smart.
