A selenite crystal digging area East and South of Cherokee is very popular. The crystals are dug out of the Salt Plains but only in one area. Consult tour guide.
Great Salt Plains - a local group, possibly the city, has an observation area but the tower is no longer where it was when I last visited. The tower was said to be moved about 3 miles North of the original location but now is accessed from Ok 11 about 8 miles North East of Cherokee. Check brochures for other aspects of the "salt flats" and the Great Salt Plains Lake, but a word of caution, the lake contains salt water. Was born here and lived in area 18 years but that was in the 50s & 60s. The railroad has been removed altogether.
