Fort Towson is a tiny town of about 500 (down 15% since 2000) with an interesting history. The town of Fort Towson was established in 1902 and was named after the nearby fort, which was named after General Nathan Towson a hero of the War of 1812. The historic Fort Towson Depot was serviced by the Arkansas and Choctaw Railroad.
