    An Absolute MUST!

There is a historic drive-inn eatery called WAYNE'S that sits on a Cache road, just south of Cache & Gore (main thoroughfares). It is absolutely the best!

For many years it has served as the local high school's hangout serving up mixed drinks (non-alcoholic) that are to die for. My fav is a VANILLA PEPSI. Trust me, their drinks are much better than what you can buy already mixed. You can get almost any comination you'd like as well. And since they've been at it for over 50 years, they have it mastered!

Their food is also amazing. Their bacon cheeseburger, or even just a sissy cheeseburger is melt-in-your-mouth good. And you'll never end up with too much grease on your hands either.

Ask any local and they will tell you that you MUST try Wayne's while you're in town. If there was any way to blend in, it would be a Wayne's cup in hand!

    Avian ingenuity

The barn swallows are among the most ingenious birds - they can build nests that seem to defy gravity. The ones here have nested en masse above the entrance to the Visitor's Center at the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. Seeing them here oblivious to the human traffic was a bonus for me. The visitor center is well worth a visit for some of the history of the area and the refuge. There are lovely and informative displays and "hands on" exhibits for the kids - art, sculpture and taxidermy. They have photo exhibits which change monthly and a nice little bookstore with tons of info on the area and other wildlife issues. It is free and open Mon-Fri 8:00-4:30. Easiest access is from I-44 just north of Lawton. Take exit 45 (Hwy 49) and go west about 10 miles into the refuge.
