Weather is fickle in Okla.
Luggage and bags: Always pack light, one bag if you can. Harder to do if you have kids. With kids try to fit their stuff in your bag or have them share one bag. Let them take a backpack with travel games and snacks. IDEAS: Dover coloring books about the place your visiting like Native Americans, Will Rogers, Pioneers etc. hand held games, magnetic boards, finger puppets, gel pens and black notebooks, and stickerbooks. Use travel bottles, remember if you don't use it every day at home, then definitely don't pack it.
Exception: Insect repellent and sunscreen
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: In spring it is mostly nice. But take a light jacket, preferably lined and water resistant. The thunderstorms are awesome!
In the summer it is HOT and humid; wear cotton, any light fabric, sundresses (women), shorts, have a hat and sunscreen. Fall is wonderful, still warm but sweaters for cloudy days or at night. In winter you can have a warm 60-70 degree day, then it can turn cold and windy. The wind is the kicker, because it can drop the actual temperature down about 10-20 degrees.
Oklahoma is a great place for sailing, so if you like that pack your deck shoes. Also, good for biking and walking etc. Not everyone wears cowboy boots there, so unless you already wear them don't bother packing them.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Don't leave the sunscreen and insect repellent if you'll be there in the summer, and take some aloe vera gel in case you get a sunburn.
Photo Equipment: Don't leave your camara, so you can
catch some sunsets. Also if you're there in the spring when the redbud and dogwood trees are blooming they are beautiful.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Bring a bathing suit in the summer because it gets hot!
My step-grandmother from Ohio came to visit and she commented on how everyone had a swiming pool, even the cows! (after passing a pond that cattle were cooling down in)
In the eastern part of OK it also get humid so bring BUG SPRAY!
Central and Western OK's trees tend to lean in one diresction meaning... WIND! And lots of it year round!
Winters can get nasy because of ice. We usualy don't get much snow but you can always count on ice!
Luggage and bags: Lite weight and somewhat water proof. When it does rain, you'll need your gear to be protected.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Hot and dry in the summer and cool to freezing in the winter months. Take some lite rain gear in spring/fall.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Sunscreen for summer and beware of the scorpions! They seem to be more abundant in the SW part of the state. Drink plenty of water when it's hot. Most calls to 911 are heat related in summer months.
Photo Equipment: Zoom lenses for capturing the live critters in the Wichita Mountains in SW Oklahoma. There's no fences so be careful! Lots of Indian history in this state. There's a nice museum at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Preserve.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Rain protection. You may not need it most of the time, but when it rains, it rains hard and it's best to be prepaired for it. Sometimes it comes with hail in the spring and fall months.
Miscellaneous: As you can see from the pic, it does snow here. Occasionaly. A battery operated weather radio is helpful to be on top of the local weather just about anywhere in Oklahoma.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Take loose clothing in the summer that is very light, because the humidity is horrible. I would take a variety of clothing, you never know what the weather is, one minute to another, it is constantly changing. Bring your best clubbing gear, and shoes, you might be dancing all night. The heat index an reach up to 115 degrees.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: BRING LOTS OF INSECT REPELLANT AND SUNSCREEN! Bring some Aloe Vera gel in case you do get sunburned and some ani-itch meds too. If you have allergies you will definetly need some allergy meds her aswell.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Allways bring a variety of types of clothing to Oklahoma, or at least things you can layer and take off, because the weather here can change in a matter of hours. I have a picture of myself standing in 10' of snow wearing a wool coat and you can see the severe sunburn I recieved while wearing a shortsleved shirt two days before. This is no joke! Will Rogers said 'If you don't like the weather in Oklahoma, wait a few minutes' and he wasn't f****ing around!
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: If you have ever suffered froma an algery, you will suffer from it here. Bring you medicine!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: When coming to Lake Tenkiller, you should pack an old pair of tennis shoes. The shoreline is rock, that is why the lake is so clear
