    4 out of 5 stars

    Oklahoma City Restaurants

On a couple different occassions, when we were in downtown OKC, we have stopped in to a decent chain Mexican food restaurant called Abuelos. There are two locations in Oklahoma, one being in the middle of Bricktown, which is the most convenient for most people traveling here. Abuelos is a great spot to have fajitas, and I personally enjoyed the...

I had not realized the history of the American Cowboy, and how it had extended past the continental US and into Hawaii. According to the entry wall, Hawaiians long ago had invited American Cowboys over to their island to teach the locals how to properly herd and ranch the long horned cattle they received from England in and around the early 1800s....

    Oklahoma City Restaurants

We looked for a place that accommodated families, and Shorty Smalls seems to fit the bill. It's a pretty good-sized BBQ house, with your standard load of silly things on the walls for decor. They have a decent Kids menu, and the choices there run around $4.50, dessert included. For the grown-ups, there are many BBQ choices. I went with a combo...

I strongly suggest the Bricktown Brewery. Entrees as well as appetizers there cost between $8 & 9. They brew their own beer there and there's a full bar upstairs with pool tables, phoose ball table, and some video games. A really cool place. I've got pics of it on my blog, just scroll down to the bottom of it. ONLY if you want pics. There are also...

I will give props to the owner who had given his waitstaff the ok to leave due to icy roads and no customers, when we walked in at 6:30pm (normally closes at 10). We had walked from the hotel, so we were disappointed as this was the only place open in our area other than Subway. He decided to let us grab a bite, and it was pretty good considering...

  • Creative Cuisine on the Cheap

Taking in Lava's sleek white decor from the sidewalk, I automatically assumed that the restaurant was too pretentious and the prices to high for a 26-year-old teacher like me. Thank goodness I popped in for a look at the menu!Lava's goal is to allow customers to sample and share several small, innovative dishes -- a kind of American twist on a...

People in Oklahoma have been known to drive 150 miles to have dinner here. It is a very nice and large facility with wonderful Italian cuisine. It has an interesting history. In the 1920s It was started by an Italian immigrant coal miner, Pietro Piegari who changed his name to Pete Prichard, who started in the 1920's to brew and sell "Choc" beer...

We were quite tired after our 4 AM wake-up in eastern Canada, followed by a flight to Dallas via Toronto and then a 180-mile drive north to McAlester, OKlahoma! After finding a spot for the night, we decided that a take-out dish from the next-door Hunan restaurant would be just what we needed! The chicken dish that we ordered was battered...

  • S&J Oyster Bar

S&J stands for swing and jive, so this place definitely has an upbeat atmosphere. In the warm months, eat outside on the patio overlooking Peoria and do some people-watching. If you can't make it to Mardis Gras in New Orlean, S&J is the next best place--it gets crazy! Oysters on the halfshell, Cold Crawfish, and the mussels
