Lava Noshery: Creative Cuisine on the Cheap

by cestovatela

Taking in Lava's sleek white decor from the sidewalk, I automatically assumed that the restaurant was too pretentious and the prices to high for a 26-year-old teacher like me. Thank goodness I popped in for a look at the menu!Lava's goal is to allow customers to sample and share several small, innovative dishes -- a kind of American twist on a Spanish tapas restaurant. The menu is divided by cooking style and offers familiar favorites, like grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, with high-end ingredients and a gourmet twist. Each dish is just big enough for two people to share with no leftovers. My boyfriend and I split 3 of these dishes and left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. Both of us appreciated the opportunity to explore a variety of tastes, ingredients and cooking styles in our meal. The menu changes seasonally, so it's fun to come back and try new things.Small dishes range...

Pete's Place: Try their "legal" brew

by rexvaughan

People in Oklahoma have been known to drive 150 miles to have dinner here. It is a very nice and large facility with wonderful Italian cuisine. It has an interesting history. In the 1920s It was started by an Italian immigrant coal miner, Pietro Piegari who changed his name to Pete Prichard, who started in the 1920's to brew and sell "Choc" beer named after its place of origin the the Choctaw Nation. He then started selling food to those who came to his home for Choc. Pete was arrested in 1932 for the illegal brew. Later his son sold the beer under a "gentleman's agreement" until a newspaper published a story about it. End of Choc beer until 1995 when it was reintroduced as a "legal" brew. It is quite good. The spagehetti, ravioli, salads and breads are very good and make each meal a huge portion. I had the Italian Sausage in addition and it was spicy and delicious.

Steaks....and more: Texas Roadhouse

by mafootje

This is a copy of my restaurant tip on Oklahoma city This restaurant was next to our hotel, so we thought we just walk in and sit down...Well, there were a lot more people that had the same idea. So we just waited for a available table. Inside the restaurant the lights where dimmed and played some nice music. We sat down at the bar and had some drinks. I had a ribs and chicken combo.. i know i also liked the bread and also know that the meat was nice and tender. The service was great, and also got some personal attention from the manager. It's just a small thing but it really makes you feel at home..When we left the restaurant i took two "Call Waiting" magnets for on our refrigerator...i didn't try to call.... i never would make it on time from Vlaardingen to OKC because of the one hour limit :-) Picture taken friday june 6th 2003 , 18:27

Cimarron Steak House and Cattleman's Steak House: Steak Houses

by supercat74

Cimarron Steak House & Cattleman's both in OKCWhere’s the beef? You don’t have to look far for a good steak in this state Sure, Oklahoma has a diverse restaurant selection of ethnic eateries, haute cuisine spots and greasy spoons. But the real stars of the state's culinary scene are its steak houses. After all, this is the land where cowboys and cattle drovers once ruled. Even today, beef is big business in Oklahoma City, which hosts twice-weekly live cattle auctions in its Stockyards City historic districtCattleman's is the granddaddy of Oklahoma steak palaces! Built in 1920 and 11 different steak menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Beef’s not the only thing that draws regulars in. Cattlemen’s also serves such hearty cowboy favorites as sauteed calves brains and scrambled eggs. The decor is Old West and the walls are festooned with photos of silver-screen cowboys like Ronald Reagan...

Hunan Chinese Restaurant: Chinese Take-Out

by Bwana_Brown

We were quite tired after our 4 AM wake-up in eastern Canada, followed by a flight to Dallas via Toronto and then a 180-mile drive north to McAlester, OKlahoma! After finding a spot for the night, we decided that a take-out dish from the next-door Hunan restaurant would be just what we needed! The chicken dish that we ordered was battered (unexpectedly for us) but nevertheless it tasted great - a very interesting sauce was provided with it. For an appetizer, the beef satay sticks were also excellent. At $12 including a tip, how could you go wrong? The meal was also ready in about 10 minutes!

This place is a restaurant by day, bar by nite, but they serve food til close which is great for late nite munchies! A definite place to start off the evening and outside seating is prime in summer. Quesadillas

S&J Oyster Bar: S&J Oyster Bar

by donovanel

S&J stands for swing and jive, so this place definitely has an upbeat atmosphere. In the warm months, eat outside on the patio overlooking Peoria and do some people-watching. If you can't make it to Mardis Gras in New Orlean, S&J is the next best place--it gets crazy! Oysters on the halfshell, Cold Crawfish, and the mussels
