Lava Noshery: Creative Cuisine on the Cheap
Taking in Lava's sleek white decor from the sidewalk, I automatically assumed that the restaurant was too pretentious and the prices to high for a 26-year-old teacher like me. Thank goodness I popped in for a look at the menu!Lava's goal is to allow customers to sample and share several small, innovative dishes -- a kind of American twist on a Spanish tapas restaurant. The menu is divided by cooking style and offers familiar favorites, like grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, with high-end ingredients and a gourmet twist. Each dish is just big enough for two people to share with no leftovers. My boyfriend and I split 3 of these dishes and left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. Both of us appreciated the opportunity to explore a variety of tastes, ingredients and cooking styles in our meal.
