    Sallisaw was one of the highlights of all my trips through Oklahoma. The people were friendly and I enjoyed learning about Sequoyah and the Cherokee. Sallisaw is a town of almost 9000 up about 10% from 2000. The name comes from a French word meaning Salt Provisions and came from a nearby creek. Sallisaw is located in Eastern Oklahoma near the border with Arkansas. The county was named for Chief Sequoyah the man who created the Cherokee syllabary.
