Will Rogers World Airport
Rent A Car. There are mostly flat plains here in Oklahoma but southeastern Oklahoma has some hiking trails and mountains. Small mountains by comparison...but a very beautiful scenic drive in the spring and fall. .
If you're driving from Joplin, Missouri, into Oklahoma City, expect to pay $7 in toll fees. If you're driving from Fort Smith, Arkansas, into Amarillo, Texas, expect to pay for nothing but gas. Driving to Lawton? Pull out the wallet. Driving to Ponca City? Set your mind at ease. Oklahoma seems to have as many turnpikes and toll roads as New Jersey. . .keep your eyes on the atlas!
We rented a Hyundai Elantra from Budget at the DFW Airport in Texas and put 550 miles on it during our little jaunt and only put about $24 gas in it (even though it was not quite full when we picked it up - we noticed later). The cost for the 2-day rental was $82 with unlimited mileage. Highway 75 from Dallas to McAlester is a 4-lane road but it has numerous reduced speed zones as it passes through various towns along the way. Since we were not in any big rush this did not bother us. The quality of the road varied from excellent to so-so but we found that the highways east of McAlester and right down through Broken Bow were excellent. Traffic was light no-matter where we were in Oklahoma. Photo taken at the start of the Talimena Scenic Drive where we stopped to get some detailed maps.
A car really is a must in oklahoma. Public transportation is limited to mostly large cities in most of the United States.
Within OKC you can take a city bus or taxi.. thats about it! I would suggest you rent a car because the taxi's are expensive
Within downtown there is a trolley which is very cheap (about .25) but everything is already within walking distance. It would be nice for elderly and handicapped though.
fly into will rodgers world airport or you can drive there-tak I-40 or I-35 and drive to the middle and there you are! you can also fly into tulsa which i have faild to mention is also a very nice place to visit.
drive drive drive. NO WE DONT GET AROUND USING THE HORSE AND WAGON ANYMORE! :) just rent a car if you have to.
Your own car would be best. There's Westheimer airport in Norman, it's for small planes. In the city there is Will Rogers World Airport. Now there is Amtrak too. I'm not quite sure if it stops in Norman, but it does stop in the city. Greyhound is also a way to get here.
Your own car the best... rent one or something
