 | Ashland Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 23 | | Bernard Pradel, a close friend of mine, opened this restaurant more than 30 years ago when he was only 21. A recent emmigrant from France, he had originally wanted to simply open a sandwich shop, as he didn't have any chef skills nor really any practical wine experience. But when he applied for a beer and wine license, the judge remarked at the time that Ashland needed a French restaurant and that he should open one. His youth and French accent attracted the amusement of the Portland press at the time. Bernard was faced with a great challenge though, as he poured over French cookbooks hoping to find receipes he could master. He called home to friend begging for help. His opening night was something of a disaster as he couldn't keep up with the demand. This plot would fit well as either a Shakespearian comedy or tragedy, but in the end comedy won out, and Bernard did well. In fact, his receipes became sought after, and David Taub, an employee was inspired to become trained in New York. David Taub, is now current co-owner along with another former employee of Pradel, Jason Doss. See weblink below for more details on this Ashland classic. Leave a Comment

Oregon coffee houses are ubiquitous in Ashland, and yet coffee alone isn't much of a breakfast. Same is true for what the pastry shops offer in town. Brothers Restaurant though has evolved from the old fashioned breakfast dinner motif into the modern practical breakfast house that offers a huge selection of favorite and familiar egg and other dishes at an affordable price. The restaurant has four tables on the sidewalk, a first floor, and even a mezzanine of tables inside. This place is busy, but the service is efficient and skilled. It's a practical way to start a long day of sightseeing around town. Leave a Comment

Many very fine restaurants. Alexi's, Brothers, Chateaulin,Black Sheep--- more than might be expected in a small community. Always festive. Black Sheep is an 'English pub'; Chateaulin is French and intimate; Brothers features fresh vegetarian and deli foods.Winchester Inn often has elegant wine-tastings, dinner theater events.
Everything is good Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: These are all on or very near the 'Plaza', the central 'square' of the town, entrance to the park and the OSF theaters.
