Wine bar, Pasta Piatti by Rixie Bring your appetite to Pasta Piatti -- their servings are huge. I liked the food, which is nouveau Italian, as well as the relaxed atmosphere and the attention our waiter gave us. I didn't want a drink and said, "Just ice water, please." He asked if I'd like some lemon with that and brought two wedges in a dish. I thought it was a nice gesture. We were there for dinner, but they also do lunch and takeout.
I had homemade cheese tortellini in a cream sauce, with green peas and bits of pancetta. It was very rich, and there was so much of it that I took 3/4 of it home with me. My husband had the chicken parmigiana, which he liked very much. Desserts (which we were much too full to consider) included spumoni, gelato, tiramisu, cherry cake, and melted-center chocolate cake. A sweet stop on a hot day by Rixie Zoey's Cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The first time we visited Ashland, we were there at lunchtime, but on that particular day the temperature soared to over 100 degrees F, so their homemade ice cream was more appealing than a sandwich. There is seating inside the cafe, in air-conditioned comfort, and outside under umbrella tables.
The ice cream menu for the day included the standard vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate, as well as more exotic flavors like Southern peach, Oregon blueberry, mocha, and ginger. I can recommend the Oregon bing cherry, the Caribbean coconut gelato, and their old-fashioned root beer floats. The Peerless just seems to get better and better over the years. The ambiance here is casual elegance and there is an outdoor patio area to dine alfresco when the weather is nice. The menus change frequently and everything is always very fresh and perfectly prepared. The service is very accomodating and you can tell the staff here enjoys what they do. This is definitely one of the finer places to dine in Ashland.
The Crab Couquettes, the Duck, Quail Appetizer, all desserts, the Fresh King Salmon when it is offered.
