 | Astoria Warnings or Dangers | Tips 1 - 2 of 2 | | If you go to the Astoria Column you are able to climb the 164 steps to the top viewing platform but do be careful for if it rains (What rain in the Pacific Northwest?) the stairs can be a bit slick. They are metal stairs built in a spiral up but it is not an easy climb. If you are not fit you should not go up unless you have a buddy to help. This is what the person at the visitors center says. Ship's Inn Restaurant! The owners (English) had that curious English knack with food. My friend was surprised to see that she was served Halibut with a special sauce....It consisted of Orange Marmelade and Scotch Mustard...not cooked or anything mind you...just spread on the Halibut as though it were a scone or something. Our waitress was delightful though and had all kinds of suggestions for silk underwear?! The Ship's Inn is listed in travel guides of Astoria and if you ask..people will tell you that's where to eat, but I have to believe there are better places!
