  • Go see the Metolius River. It is an amazing river that you can see where the river starts and comes out of the ground. The water is ice cold and crystal clear. It is a fly fishing only river. It is too cold to swim in and too shallow for boats. It is a must see. If you have the chance to camp, the metolius river is a great place to go. And make sure and drink the water out of the river, it isn't poluted and is good!

Camping in the Three Sisters Wilderness Area. I backpack into this lake called Black Crater. Not a lot of people know about this spot. Mostly only horseback riders go there. The lake is clear and in the middle only gets about 15-20 feet deep. It is really beautiful where we camp. There are tree, we are in the mountains away from everything except the animals. It is very peaceful

If you want to do any shopping, do it in Oregon. Oregon has no state sales tax. The outlet malls are the perfect location if you want cheap brand items.
Too bad by now the exchange rate for the US dollar makes the prices uninteresting for Europeans.

Bend is where much of my family lives or has lived. It is sort of my second home. My fondest memories would have to be, Fireworks off of Pilot Butte with Root Beer floats, going to the summit of Mt. Bachelor, photograhing the Three Sisters & the Deschutes River, walking through Drake Park, the smell of such fresh air & juniper...only Bend has this.

Ski Mt.Bachelor (20 minutes from town) fish Wickiup for browns (see photo-yes it really is that big! 36') and boat/jet ski at The Cove. It is required of all visitors to dine at The Pine Tavern, drink at The Deschutes Brewery, and visit the High Desert Museum.

I always miss the clean air (and smell), slower pace of life, and the people. The sound of the wind in the ponderosa pines, smell of juniper, and how clear the stars are from anywhere you are at. I love waking up to a picture postcard world everyday.

This is a fun, greatest hits book of Mother Nature's finest, generally within an hour's drive of Bend, Oregon. Includes hikes, museums, resorts and tourist attractions although it leaves out commercial endeavors unless they are one-of-a-kind. More than anything it attempts to honor and showcase the variety and diversity of attractions and landscapes surrounding Bend. Highlights the best hikes and attractions in a succinct and discriminating manner. Use in conjunction with a sense of humor and playfulness!

Written by Scott Cook, this can be baught locally or by internet search for about $15
