"Eugene Airport , also known as Mahlon Sweet Field, is owned and operated by the City of Eugene. It is the fifth-largest airport in the Pacific Northwest, providing commercial air service to a six-county region in mid-Oregon. The airport also has an expanded air cargo facility to serve the growing air cargo demands of the region, and one Fixed Base Operator (FBO) to handle general aviation needs...

    The Eugene Airport

  • The Eugene Airport is located about 10 miles northwest of downtown Eugene. It originally was designated Mahlon Sweet Airport, but since no one can remember who Mahlon Sweet was the town fathers changed the name to just Eugene Airport with Mahlon Sweet Field designating the runways, I guess.
The original terminal building complete with fireplace is still in use. The new terminal was completed about 30 years ago. A unique feature is the wall of "Flying People" composed by a local artist and features locals flying through the air in all kinds of apparel demonstrating the diversity of lifestyles here.
Eugene has direct connections to LA, SFO, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, PDX, Denver and Seatac. But to travel farther one must make connections in those cities. Recently, regional jets have replaced the larger commercial jets and I must say they are quite adequate... easy on, easy off and just as fast in the air.

  • Getting here is generally easy by car since it is directly off of a main freeway (I5), but there is also a local airport which makes daily flights to/from San Francisco, Seattle, Portland and various other places.
Many people ride bikes in Eugene.. The bike lanes are pretty well set up. The public bus transportation is very good in Eugene as well.

  • You can drive, go by AMTRAK, fly, or go Greyhound. I can't think of what is the best it is just up to your preferance.
We have very good public transpertation on LTD. It even goes up the Wilamette River to Blue River, if you chose to see the beautiful countryside.

Personally i can say that if you do not ahve a car and live not really in the city centre, you should need at least a bike. More, shopping centres are not in town anymore but along the highway so...you do need a car!
Anyway, here are just quick general tips:
    Bus fares
    Daily rates: adults (19-61), $1.25; youth (5-18) and seniors (62-79), $.60
Monthly bus pass: adults, $28; youth & seniors, $14
    Bikes
For those that are more fitness-oriented seeking transportation, biking is always an option. There are several places in town that rent bikes daily and weekly at substantially low rates ($12 per day; $60 per week).
    Blue Heron Bicycles: 877 East 13th Avenue, (541) 343-2488
High Street Bicycles: 535 High Street, (541) 687-1775
    Paul's Bicycle Way of Life: 152 West 5th Avenue, (541) 344-4105

    Parking at Eugene Airport

  • The Eugene Airport has ample parking. The smaller short term lot is located near the terminal entrance. The rate here is $1 per half hour or $12 per day. The short term lot has 258 spaces.
The long term lot has 1000 spaces. The rate is $7 per day or $42 per week. There is also an overflow lot of over 500 spaces and when in use a shuttle is provided. However, I have never seen such an event occur as the main lot usually fills the bill.
We visit the lot quite often as the Wings Restaurant is convenient to our location. Wings validates your parking when visiting the restaurant. We enjoy the fare collectors as they are always pleasant and quick with the quip.
The lot is open 24 hours per day and is always attended by security.
