Skinner's Lounge: A convenient place to "rinse"...

by steedappeal Written Nov 22, 2010

This is the main bar in the Hilton Hotel & Conference complex.

Even though I was not staying in the hotel, I was made very welcome. The barman was especially helpful with area advice.

So meet, greet and "rinse" a few Oregon Pinot Noirs down the hatch.

You'll meet locals and tourists at this very social gathering spot!

Oregon Electric Station & Lounge: All aboard for Whiskey and Beer

by steedappeal Updated Nov 21, 2010

A local institution with lots of bric-a-brac of Eugene railroad and Nike-wearing runners' glories past.

The best selection of spirits in town- especially their vast wall of single-malt whiskeys.

Friendly service at the bar, too.

    Dress Code: Casual.

Bijou Arts Cinema: Whether Day or Night...

by steedappeal Updated Nov 21, 2010

This is local Eugene at its best. A really terrific experience. Situated in a Spanish Mission style building designed by the U of O's first Dean of Architecture.

I watched a Woody Allen Film and have not laughed so hard in a long time.

The Cooler is a place where you can go and unwind. The bar features pool tables, a tv that covers a whole wall, couches to relax on, food that was incredible, and a atmosphere that is radical.

Various Locales around Eugene: Live Music

by lareina Written May 16, 2004

    WOW Hall, 281 W. 8th Ave.

Eugene is a pretty happening place for live music. Every night of the week you are bound to find a number of live shows playing around town, from smaller bars to the larger venues in town. If we are lucky enough, some of the bigger names swing through Eugene on their way from Portland. For example, I saw Tori Amos at the Cuthbert Ampitheatre, Frank Black at the WOW Hall, and the Cure at the Hult Center. U2 onced played here at Autzen Stadium!

Some of the best larger venues are: WOW Hall, Hult Center, the Shedd, Cuthbert Ampitheatre (in summer), the Jungle, and the McDonald Theatre. Check the free Eugene Weekly which comes out every Thursday for listings. There is also an insert called 'The Ticket' every Friday in the Register Guard, the local paper.

    Cafe Soriah: Great Drinks-Awesome Bartenders

    by shellybelly567 Written Nov 6, 2003

    Cafe Soriah

Cafe Soriah was my hang out. Dyalan and I went there all the time, knew all the bartenders, and always got great service.
It's a classy little place, with a nice bar and a few tables in front. The restaurant is in the back (I never ate there) and behind that, there is a really nice patio.

One of my favorite memories of that place is on Tim's 21-er when Tom went around pouring cosmopolitans into people's mouths-directly out of the shaker.

Favorite drinks: Margarita on the rocks-they make it with all fresh squeezed juice that they squeeze at the bar.
Spanish Coffee-yummy coffee and lots of booze, plus it's fun to watch them make it.

If you're hungry: I never ate dinner there or anything, but whenever we got the munchies, we'd get a Hummus Plate.

Dress Code: It's Eugene-pretty much anything goes...

The Bijou theatre: Indie films in an Indie town.

    the historic Bijou

I'll never forget the place where I first saw the South Park gang. Back when all of you kids were still stuck on Ren & Stimpy or Speed Racer I was laughing my arse off at the Bijou Theatre during a showing of Spike & Mike's Sick and Twisted Festival of Animation. I wasn't in the romantic mood to sit next to the romantic fountain in the courtyard after that one. Many other times I was in that mood after watching a romantic movie on one of two screens. This is an old converted church that now is a theatre. I feel I should add that my great aunt and uncle were married here in the days before popcorn and soda were served here.

Dress Code: None. After all - this is Eugene.

    Rennies before remodel

Campus Bars: order of preference 1)Taylor´s bar and grill. E 13th. Wednesday: dollar micros. Good people, good food. Shuffleboard. 2)Rennies Landing, E13th, no specials. Not as laid back as Taylors. Food is pretty good. Try a Rennie´s Lemonade. 3)Max´s, E13 and Patterson, alternative or hippies with money or jobs bar. Downtown: (not very great, at all) 1) Jogger´s, Willamette St., across from the Hult Center. Tues. 9-12, all drinks 2$, includes micros and mixed. Karaoke. Packed. Good looking people, but the occasional country folk from the outskirts. Don´t go there any other night, except possibly Fr. all you can drink and eat for $10, but the crowd is not college people. 2) Rock n´Rodeo. tues, hip-hop night, midnight and on, $2 drinks, dancing, packed, lot of girls and a lot of Oregon atheletes. Also, Kokomo´s, a sub-bar of the `Ho-deo`. Any other night you´ll be surrounded by cowboy hats and line dancing, but on tues. you´ll see no country folk. 3) Wild Duck. Older crowd, late 20´s and on. Nice restaurant, great beer. Music venues. 4)6th St. Bar and Grill. monday specials.

Dress Code: There is no dress code anywhere in Eugene. But each place caters to different clientel. Taylors is a mixture of Abercrombie and laid back people, and it blends together just fine. Rennies likewise. If you´re into the enviroment, smoke a lof of herb, like ska, techno or the Greatfuldead, go to Max´s. I´m probably the opposite of the crowd there, but I even have a good time at Max´s. A great place for over 30 yr. olds before 9pm as well.

  • There are not many dance/disco...

There are not many dance/disco type places in Eugene.. The atmosphere is generally very laid back.. Many of the local bars are pretty good: I like East 19th Street Cafe (McMennamins), Rennie's near campus; Biagio's is fun for dancing.. Generally, in any restaurant or bar you will find a wide selection of good microbrews from in and around Oregon. Eugene boasts a lot of good music too. A lot of reggae, hip-hop and jazz pass through Eugene and Portland is only an hour and a half away. When in Eugene, pick up a Eugene Weekly which should list most of the current events.

Dress Code: Very casual... but if you want to look nice that's good too! You will find in Eugene, and Oregon, in general, that people generally wear what's comfortable to them, not necesarily what's 'in style'

Here are my favorites: Diablo's and the Downtown Lounge, Joe Federico's, Luna, Max's, and 6th Street Grill.
For live music check out: WOW hall, McDonald Theater, Wild Duck, EMU at the University of Oregon, and John Henry's (gone, but returning??).

Dress Code: Anything you're comfortable wearing.
