White water rafting on the Deschutes River at Maupin, OR is awesome! It is also dangerous, but fun. Five of us went out on a Saturday morning. We had a great guide Steve. Steve really knew the river and we got out money's worth, thanks to him. We flew over rapids. One party in the raft imploded out of the raft. Luckily he was not ingured. The Sage Raft Co treated us very well. We started at 10:00 am; stopped for lunch at noon. Lunch was barbeque steak and chicken, salad, bread, 7 layer bean dip and excellent brownies. Non-alcholic drinks were provided on the raft.
There was one area along the way where you can jump ship and ride along with the river.
Don't forget to put something on your feet. Shoes, sandels or water shoes will work.
Equipment: Sage provides the life jackets and water, pop and super soakers in case you have to defend yourself from other rafts. Wear a swim suit or clothing that drys quickly. YOU WILL GET WET, oh yeah. If you wear glasses or shades, be sure and pick up something to help you hold on to them in case you fall in.
Don't worry about taking towels, they'll just get soaked.
Put something on your feet - waterproof sandles, tennis shoes, water shoes.
