McMinnville Things to Do

  • Indoor Water Park

This was a fun destination to take a family. We went this weekend with a family of 5 kids and 4 adults. The waterpark had activities for all age groups from our 3 month old infant, to a 2 year old, a 4 year old, a 5 year old and a 12 year old. There was 6 water slides that start in the fuselage of a 747 that sits on the roof of the waterpark. There...

  • More than Spruce Goose at Aviation...

While the gem of the collection at the Evergreen Aviation museum is the Spruce Goose, there is an extensive collection of other airplanes. I especially enjoyed those from the Second World War and beyond. Photographers: some parts of the museum interior are dark once away from the Spruce Goose. You will need to go to a high ISO. Some airplanes are...

The gem of the collection at Evergreen Aviation Museum is the Spruce Goose, the largest all wooden aircraft ever made. Photographers, the light is natural near the plane due to large windows at its nose. I found it interesting to focus in on sections of the airplane. A zoom lens with wide-angle works nicely.

  • Evergreen Aviation Water Park

I can't say too much about the new water park that is located on the grounds of the Evergreen Aviation Museum, and neither can anyone else. This is because it will open sometime in the summer of 2011. However, the structure looks spectacular - mostly because it has a Boeing 747 sitting on the roof, out of which protrude several tube slides. We don't...

  • Evergreen Aviation Museum / "Spruce...

In his honor, it should be noted that the "Spruce Goose" name was a creation of news reporters, was particularly despised by Howard Hughes, and not particularly accurate (the plane features birch as its primary building component, not spruce!). However, that is what we have come to call most huge of transplants from California, and thus this is the...

  • Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is the home to the famous "Spruce Goose" airplane. Flown only once, this huge plane, made of wood by Howard Hughes is really cool to see. Besides the chance to see this iconic plane, there are also many other planes that are located at the museum. Everything from early propellor planes to modern day jet...

The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum resides in the small Oregon town of McMinnville. The museum in this small town hosts the largest wood airplane ever constructed, namely the Hughes Flying Boat H-4, aka the Spruce Goose. In addition, the museum has a wide range of aircraft displayed including: early aircraft, cargo airplanes, commercial planes,...

This is a destination place. It worth a visit even if you are not very close. Everything is with mushrooms! Soop was just wonderful, never ate anything like this! Salad was very good, too. Appetizers on a house was what makes me remember this place.Wine list is huge! And there is a person who helps you to choose wine with whatever you decided to...

Evergreen Aviation Wine for $8 a Bottle 3 more images

What to buy: Notice carefully the setting of the Evergreen Aviation Museum: the buildings have been constructed insde the boundaries of one of the Yamhill Valley's reasonably well known vinyards. Available inside the Evergreen Aviation Museum (naturally!), during Yamhill area wine festivals, and various other locations and venues and situations, it is possible to find wine made from the very grapes and vinyards owned by the Evergreen Aviation Museum.

What to pay: Note the Prices on the Bottles shown in Photo 1. Your cheapest bet is probably the Evergreen Aviation Museum itself, however.

Armored Military Vehicles on the Museum Grounds 4 more images

by SteveOSF Updated Dec 24, 2007

Throughout the grounds immediately outside the Evergreen Aviation & Space, some interesting exhibits can be found. This includes a few of the museum aircraft as well as some historic military vehicles. The military vehicles are mostly old tanks and armored reconnaissance vehicles and are located behind the main museum building. You can see these items by taking a short (and free) stroll around the grounds.

  • Instrument Trainer

This circa 1943 instrument trainer is displayed at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. In an age of high-tech aviation simulators, it is had to imagine this device being used to train military pilots. Yet the museum affords us a brief return to a simpler, perhaps more romantic, era of aviation.

  • Avenger Torpedo Bomber

A rare flyable Avenger World War II torpedo bomber is kept by the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. This was a carrier based American bomber. The crews of these airplanes had to fly in low and release a torpedo at close range at enemy ships. This involved getting past any enemy fighters, and then exposing themselves at point blank range of the...

  • P-38 Lightning

A sleek, twin engine P-38 Lightning resides within the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. This World War II era aircraft was the Army's first fighter to achieve a speed greater than 400 miles per hour. Fast and powerful, a Lightning could deliver a potent punch to an opposing aircraft. This durable airplane, with its "extra" engine, could return...
