These Sea Lions on the waterfront in Newport are sunning themselves very close to tourist destinations and are subject to many pollutants, including restricting fish line and the like....This old guy obviously has had this necklace for awhile...they are very hard to catch to remove these problems and therefore need preventative protection. Please do not throw anything into the ocean which can hurt these wonderful animals...

Oregon has some of the biggest tides in the United States so if you are planning on doing any extensive beach walking, you need to pay attention to your tide charts. Some rocky outcroppings hemming in beaches can become completely submerged at high tides. Tide pools are great to explore but generally are at their best just after the tide have gone out. You tend to see more and you don't have to worry about the incoming tide that will leave where you are standing a place you no longer can stand.
