Oakridge Things to Do

  • Salt Creek Falls

At 286 feet, Salt Creek Falls is the second highest waterfall in Oregon. And with an average yearly flow of 50,000 gallon per minute, it's the most powerful waterfall in southern Oregon. Located in the Middle Fork Ranger District of Willamette National Forest, the observation site for the waterfall is located just off OR-58 about 23 miles southwest...

  • Lookout at Salt Creek Falls

Salt Creek Falls are the second tallest in Oregon. The falls are about 60 feet wide and fall 286 feet. There is a nice and mostly accessible viewing area for people to walk to. If a person was in a wheelchair, the going isn't necessarily easy. As you can see, in April you are apt to find snow, and the path to the viewing area wasn't free of snow.The...

  • DIVIDE LAKE

For hikers and backpackers, Divide Lake on the Mt Yoran trail makes an admirable destination. The waters are crystal clear and green, reflecting the green of the surrounding forests. • MT YORAN

Found on the north end of the long Diamond Peak crest, Mt Yoran and the unnamed volcanic plug just to its south - which is actually higher by 38 feet; lets call it Corgi Peak, just for the heck of it - represent a kind of final fling for the lava vents found on Diamond. Yoran is an impressive lava plug that blasts high above some gorgeous little...

Oakridge Warnings and Dangers

  • mcpangie's Profile Photo

by mcpangie Updated Apr 16, 2005

I can never take a picture of the signs, there isn't really a safe place to pull off and mostly cars are following close each time I drive down Highway 58 on the western side of Willamette Pass. The road is steep and winding, so there are several runaway truck ramps built at the bottom of steep grades. Anyway, there are signs with arrows pointing to highway 58. It made me think at least one person has accidentally driven up onto the runaway truck ramp, trying to go straight.

  • MT YORAN CLIMB

Climbing Mt Yoran is usually done via the gully on the southeast side of the peak. From the little camping area on the northwest end of Divide Lake you just go up the scree slope, aiming at the trees just to the right of the gully. Then comes the gully itself which takes you to an easy ridge by which you can gain the summit. The rock is a little...

  • Rock Face at Salt Creek Falls

I thought the rocks were neat at Salt Creek Falls. Interesting how the rocks were worn away at this waterfall. It also made me think these falls aren't that "old", or the mountain isn't that old. Because the wearing isn't that great.

  • Home of the Lost Wagon Train

They have this little wagon out in the parking lot at the grocery store on highway 58. I was looking around online trying to figure out who got lost. Every time I drive through Oakridge, the clouds are welling up in the valley like that. It is lovely.
