 | Portland Transportation | Tips 61 - 70 of 88 | | I'm not sure the exact area it covers, but there are aseveral downtown blocks that the metro provides free rides on. It is expanded during certain downtown festivals as well. Worth checking into if you are on a budget. FYI the public bikes were a bust, now free homeless bikes...not even worth looking for. Besides waterfront park, Portland has another wide greenbelt on the other side of the river that has nice views and information on the history. I haven't seen any gangbangers, so I think it's safe. Leave a Comment Theme: Bicycle

Just walk, jog, rent a bike. Portland is pretty compact, and enjoy the day, also maybe you'll find something you wouldnt if you drove to someplace nearby, instead of spent 10 extra minutes walking. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Portland's excellent transit system will get you anywhere. Take a MAX train directly from the airport into downtown. Hop on the streetcar or trolley from Portland State University to Powell's Books on 10th or up to NW 23rd Ave. Everything's free within the fareless square of downtown, and you can carry your bike with you on the bus. Monitors inside the downtown stops tell you how soon the next bus is coming. Leave a Comment Theme: BusPhone: (503) 238-RIDEWebsite: www.tri-met.org Other Contact: TRI-MET Office, Pioneer Square

If you're driving in Portland, a few tips. Watch out for bus-only lanes; avoid 1st, 5th, and 6th Avenues downtown. Major thoroughfares are Naito, 4th, Broadway, 12th, and Burnside. Be careful when turning right, don't run over bicyclists. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home
