  • The Greyhound terminal is at 550 NW 6th Ave, just north of Chinatown and across the street from Union Station. City bus maps and schedules are on a little stand near the front entrance.

Car/Rental Car: Don't get stuck in the bus lane!

  • If you're driving in Portland, a few tips. Watch out for bus-only lanes; avoid 1st, 5th, and 6th Avenues downtown. Major thoroughfares are Naito, 4th, Broadway, 12th, and Burnside. Be careful when turning right, don't run over bicyclists.

The one thing you will notice about driving here is that flashy light cars have in the back that tells you they are going to merge.
You can use that bar sticking out of the steering column to tell other drivers about which lane you will use.
If you do that, the locals will let you in the lane. It is the custom here.

AIR:PDX international airport is about 30-45 minutes from downtown alot of guidebooks say 15, but they are crazy we have traffic here.
Airport MAX:This is a great option, its cheap I and takes about 20 minutes to get to the airport and runs from like 4:45am-12am from Downtown to the Airport and visa versa. Much cheaper then a taxi(about 20-25bucks) or private bus(10-20).

Trains and Buses:From Seattle the trainstation is right downtown, at the northend. Grayhound busline is also located next to the train station.

The Max is the light rail network in Portland, there are 3 lines. One going East to Gresham through the eastern part of Portland, Another going to west to Hillsboro via beaverton, and the Airport line, which goes east on the Gresham line until it breaks off north and goes to N.E Portland the the Airport.

The Max is pretty fast and easy to board, you cant miss it, as it runs on the street in downtown Portland from the city center area around Pioneer Square.

    Lightrail and Metro: Tri-Met/MAX

  • Portland is a very walkable city however, if you need a cheap alternative to a taxi or shuttle I'd reccomend taking Tri-met. This is the local bus service and also inclueds MAX light-rail system that runs through downtown to several locations in Portland including the Zoo, airport, Convention Center, LLoyd Center (shopping) and other cultural districts. Check out the web-site for info on fares for adults/children/seniors.

  • We have a very user friendly airport.
Portland has a really good public transit system and a brand new light railsystem called MAX.
Bicycles are also very popular in the Portland area.
