One of the unusual sights in Rogue River are the onion domes and ikon paintings of the St. Innocent Eastern (Russian Orthodox outside of Russia) Orthodox Church. Founded in 1982 by about 30 devotees of the Orthodox faith, St. Innocent is gathering funds to build the first Russian Orthodox Church built from scratch in the USA since the Russian revolution.

You can stop, look, sign the guestbook, and hold your own silent observations. Services are held in another church in nearby Wimer until the new church is built.

Russian orthodoxy has about 250 million memebers worldwide, second only to the Catholic Church. There are about 10 million members in the USA.

The Old Covered bridge up at Wimer is rebuilt and the pride of the area. Pronounced Why-mer. Many people live in the hills of Wimer above Rogue River.

Locals raised money and are still raising money to maintain the bridge.
Covered bridges were build all over Oregon. The wood bridges needed a roof to protect the wood from rotting.
