The famous Rooster Crow is held the last weekend of June in Rogue River. Roosters are given 30 minutes to crow and the rooster with the most crows wins a prize for its owner.

But it gets better. There is a human crowing contest and that brings out the laughs for sure :)

    St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Church

    St. Seraphim of Sarov Ikon
    4 more images

One of the unusual sights in Rogue River are the onion domes and ikon paintings of the St. Innocent Eastern (Russian Orthodox outside of Russia) Orthodox Church. Founded in 1982 by about 30 devotees of the Orthodox faith, St. Innocent is gathering funds to build the first Russian Orthodox Church built from scratch in the USA since the Russian revolution.

You can stop, look, sign the guestbook, and hold your own silent observations. Services are held in another church in nearby Wimer until the new church is built.

Russian orthodoxy has about 250 million memebers worldwide, second only to the Catholic Church. There are about 10 million members in the USA.

    Tractor float rooster crow parade

A real small-town parade complete with tractors, wiener dogs, rooster crow queens and the whole town is either in or watching the parade.
It lasts an hour in a short run down main street ending near the street festival and rooster crowing groudns for the world famous competition. Well, at least it is famous among roosters.

Rock Point Bridge, Gold Hill, Oregon

Between Rogue River and Gold Hill is Rock Point, the site of an old covered bridge in 1859. The original builder charged a toll to cross. Later it was given to teh State of Oregon and replaced with this reinforced concrete bridge.
It is a popular area to swim and float the river. There are small rapids just downstream but a calm area to float the river.
