View Pennsylvania's Elk herd in the heart of the "Pennsylvania Wilds" area. The little town of Benezette is in the heart of the elk viewing area. In fall, is an especially good time to view the elk due to the rut season. See elk virtually anywhere....from in someones back yard, along the road, anywhere! I saw 2 beautiful males eating leaves off a tree on the grounds of the local Baptist church. The state has made Elk viewing areas, one called Winslow Hill. This is a great place anytime, but a couple of hours before dusk is great. The elk often come out of the woods and into the fields. You can photograph them eaisly. I stopped in the early morning too, no elk to be seen that morning but the view was breathtaking with a heavy fog hanging in the valley...it was beautiful. Also in the area lots of white tailed deer, Turkeys, hawks and much more. While you are in the area check the map and drive another 20 minutes or so to Sinnemahoning State park where there are adult bald eagles who live there year round. View them at the "Eagle viewing area" the park has set up, on the edge of the water. If you love beautiful scenery, and watching wildlife, you will love this area of Pennsylvania.

There are not a lot of options for resturaunts in this area, but thankfully this is a good one! Good home cooked food, a nice variety on the menu, fair prices and daily specials. They have a dining room, and outdoor deck, and a bar. Very casual. Worth a stop.
Favorite Dish: I had the daily special which was roasted pork, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut, very good!
and the dessert selection was good, with a few pies and a yummy peanut butter chocolate cake.
