    Right of Passage

For boys, kill’n things with guns is a right of passage. One can cage their self worth and manliness by the size of the fish they catch or by the number of “points” the antler has on the dead deer. This is shown by the number of animals hung in on the walls of homes, bars, restaurants and bathrooms. You may find a jack-o-lope or two if you are lucky.

In all fairness, the deer need to be hunted around here. The forest no longer holds a viable predator for these herbivore creatures that may be considered lower on the food chain. They run ramped around here. If they are not hunted, then many will starve come the winter months due to lack of food.

Might as well associate it with manhood…

Times moves slower here. There’s no TV, no radio, no cell phone reception here. There’s only one choice you have here… and that’s your choice. Enjoy it.
